It’s been sixteen years since 13 Going on 30, and now, Jenna and Matty, a.k.a. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, are reuniting. Ruffalo and Garner have both signed on to Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movie The Adam Project, and the best part? Ruffalo will be playing Reynolds' dad in the film.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Monday that Ruffalo, along with actress Catherine Keener, officially joined the increasingly impressive cast for the new sci-fi adventure that began production in Vancouver this week. Notable casting mentions also include Zoe Saldana, Dark Matter's Alex Mallari, Jr. and newcomer Walker Scobell. The Adam Project's premise is certainly an interesting one. For the project, spearheaded by both Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, the Deadpool star will play a man who ‘travels back in time to get help from his 13-year-old-self’ (played by Scobell). Most of us would probably pass on the opportunity to enlist the help of angst-ridden teenage versions of ourselves but, in Reynolds’ case, it’s a ‘save the world’ type of scenario.Ruffalo, for his part, will play Reynolds’ dad who happens to be a brilliant physicist. Keener, on the other hand, will play a villain who makes an enemy of Ruffalo after she steals powerful tech from him. Mallari will play Keener’s accomplice.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Ryan Reynolds reveals being Canadian is his ‘greatest asset’[/video_embed]While Jennifer Garner's role remains under wraps, Just Jared reports that Jen and Mark will actually both be playing Ryan's parents. Honestly, we aren’t sure which is more exciting – the promise of a star-studded Hollywood blockbuster, or the reunion between Ruffalo and Garner.Obviously, this plot is a far cry from the nostalgia-inducing rom-com we came to love in 2004, but nonetheless, it’s a reunion we didn’t know we needed.

If Garner and Ruffalo’s on-screen chemistry was undeniable back then, we have no doubt about their potential for a strong Mom and Dad pairing for The Adam Project, which is slated for release on Netflix.

Director Shawn Levy originally teamed up with Reynolds on Free Guy, and The Adam Project will be the first film produced under Reynolds’ recently announced program: The Group Effort Initiative. The program aims to give Black, Indigenous, people of colour or people from marginalized and excluded communities real experience working in the entertainment industry.
