"Hallelujah" is a word not often used in the year 2020 but this news, courtesy of the multi-talented Whoopi Goldberg, is definitely something we’ll be celebrating like the little slice of gospel it is. During her guest appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden (weekdays at 12:37 a.m. ET on CTV), the Sister Act franchise star revealed that a third film is currently being seriously discussed. Like, this is really actually happening.Corden, who counts himself among the movies’ biggest fans, took one for the Sister Act stans and broached the subject with Whoopi near the end of the interview (after confronting her about her garlic-heavy COVID cooking habits).
“I am such a fan of those movies,” said the host, admitting that if they pop up on television, he always drops what he’s doing to watch them, adding that he recently shared his franchise fandom with nine-year-old son Max. “Do you ever rewatch them?” he asked. “And… why hasn’t Sister Act 3 happened?”Unlike other stars who deftly dodge questions about returning to old roles with the same zeal they employ to avoid talking about their dating lives, Goldberg had an answer at the ready:"Because for a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it,” she said. “And then quite recently, it turns out, that that may not be true. People may want to see it. So we're working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”[video_embed id='2050310']MORE REUNION NEWS: Alfonso Ribeiro spills on that 'Fresh Prince' reunion [/video_embed]Back in 2017, Whoopi reunited with some of the cast to perform a tribute to the film on The View, belting out a version of Peggy March’s "I Will Follow Him" with her Sister Act choir. As it turns out, it’s a habit Goldberg isn’t ready to quit. While there’s no proposed timeline for filming, Whoopi is enthusiastic about a third installment. “It’s a really fun movie,” she told Corden. "It's fun and it feels good. And you know, nobody's mad. It's just, listen—bad singing, great singing, okay singing and then nuns. What's better than that?"We'll be keeping Sister Act 3 in our thoughts and prayers.Watch The Late Late Show with James Corden weekdays at 12:35 a.m. ET on CTV.[video_embed id='2044336']BEFORE YOU GO: This hilarious TikTok sums up 2020 perfectly[/video_embed]
