Kazakhstan’s most famous export, a.k.a. the character known as Borat, is coming back for another feature film’s worth of documented adventures in America. And now thanks to the first official trailer, fans everywhere have a better idea of what to expect when he makes his October 23 return. In the three-minute trailer for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, (say that three times fast), Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) reveals what life has been like since his first feature film, and how he has brought shame to his country. But not to worry: he is on a mission to change that by returning to America—this time in disguise—and he’s bringing his daughter (played by Irina Nowak) with him.
“Only man and bears are allowed inside car,” Borat deadpans to an officer when he’s pulled over for having his daughter strapped to the roof of the car. Later, he reveals he’s here “to give my daughter as a gift to someone close to the throne.” And by throne, he means the White House. But that’s not where the politics end—not by a long shot.[video_embed id='5655139338001']RELATED: Sacha Baron Cohen Offers to Pay Fines For Arrested 'Mankini' Borat Impersonators[/video_embed]Throughout the trailer it’s clear that Baron Cohen is tackling everything from Donald Trump supporters to the coronavirus and even female rights. Of course he’s doing it in typical Borat fashion—with plenty of satire and crass humour. At one point, he even crashes a Mike Pence convention, which is totally on-brand for him. Given that, it’s no wonder that he filmed the movie in secret this past summer, and that oftentimes he was actually risking his life to make it (Deadline reports that he wore a bulletproof vest on at least two days of filming).Of course there are some lighter moments too, such as Borat taking his daughter—"Sandra Jessica Parker Drummond"—dress shopping, and she tries on the garment bag instead of the actual dress. Or the moment he convinces a random man to let him quarantine with him, and the pair school each other on the best way to kill a coronavirus while Borat also allows him to reveal his true, unflattering self. It’s all pretty much in line with the comedy that Baron Cohen has become known for, especially after the original Borat film debuted in 2006. That film was a box office hit, pulling in more than $260 million worldwide. The movie also won Baron Cohen a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the quotable character, and he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.According to the Deadline article Baron Cohen rushed to have the film ready before the November 3 U.S. election, and although a big-screen release would have been preferable, given the current pandemic Prime Video made more sense. So now everyone can enjoy the movie from the comfort of their own homes when it drops on October 23, but be warned to stay away from the popcorn: if the first film taught fans anything, it’s to stay away from choking hazards because you never know when you’re going to spontaneously burst out laughing… or start gagging.[video_embed id='2829168001001']THROWBACK: Sacha Baron Cohen pranks audience at Britannia Awards[/video_embed]
