Since having pivoted from ‘00s pop singer to accomplished stage actress, Lily Allen has also become a bit of a red carpet staple — particularly during her current run in The Pillowman in London, England.

Earlier this week, Allen sported an especially prim look in a glimmering navy blue blazer with a white collar, a back-slit, long denim skirt, a glittery silver clutch, and silver heels.

The 38-year-old was spotted leaving London’s Duke of York’s Theatre, where she’s been starring in The Pillowman since June.

And since then, Allen has been seen at the stage door after the show in a series of show-stopping looks, featuring everything from leather to army print to all denim and all gothic.

It was her look this week, however, that marked the season’s strong return to not only the maxi skirt, but lengthy denim. The ‘90s favourite may have once been considered a little too casual and a little too frumpy, but in its new iteration, it’s become a nostalgic and neutral throwback.

Bella and Gigi Hadid, and Olivia Rodrigo have been big fans of the renewed trend, often pairing their denim skirts with crop tops and tanks.

Outside of her fashion moments, Allen has been making a splash as an actress. She shared more about her time working in The Pillowman with BroadwayWorld in November, saying, “One of our most inventive playwrights, Martin McDonagh, is renowned for pushing boundaries, and it's a privilege to join this show. Together with my incredible 2.22 director Matthew Dunster, I am excited to help create a production of The Pillowman that is sorely needed right now in these unprecedented times. I can't wait to bring it to life each night on stage and for audiences to get to experience it."

McDonagh directed last year's Oscar-nominated film The Banshees of Inisherin, while his script for The Pillowman won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2004, and a Tony Award nomination for Best Play in 2005.

As for Allen, she debuted as an actress in the 2019 film How to Build a Girl. In 2021, she made her West End debut in the play 2:22 A Ghost Story, for which she won a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress.
