‘Goodnight With Dolly’ may mark the first time we actually get some much-needed sleep this month. The country music icon has (bless!) joined the rush of celebrities taking to various social media platforms in an attempt to soothe our coronavirus anxieties (think: Patrick Stewart’s
Shakespearean sonnets, Chrissy Teigen’s neverending stream of
Twitter antics, Mariah Carey’s
living room concert, or Demi Lovato’s accidental Instagram Live
video-bomb). Parton, however, is putting her own spin on things, just the way she’s always done. The singer and actor (pro tip: a rewatching of Parton’s brilliant comedic work in
9 to 5 is exactly what you need right now) launched her
Imagination Library, a book-gifting program that serves preschool age children, way back in 1995. The charity now sends out nearly one million books a month to children in Canada, Australia, Ireland, the UK, and the US. Because reading is what? Fundamental. Now, Parton is taking her love of the library one step further, sharing evening storytime with fans (and little future fans) across the world. Beginning this Thursday night, she’ll read a beloved children’s book aloud and broadcast it by video. ‘Goodnight With Dolly’ will premiere across various social media channels including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on the evening of April 2nd and will include a total of ten soothing, sleep-inducing stories over the course of its run, each read in Dolly’s sweet southern voice.“I hope this gift will further inspire a love of books and shared storytime during this important time,” says Parton. “From everyone on our team, thank you so much for inspiring a love of reading in your family. As I always say — We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails — and we’re going to do just that, together.”
