Sorry Scofield fans, but Wentworth Miller is officially done with
Prison Break. The actor confirmed as much in a recent Instagram post, revealing that if the series ever does get another season he will not be a part of it.The 48-year-old actor hopped on social media on November 9 to thank his fans for their recent support in light of trolls and other only bullies targeting the LGBTQ+ community. He then revealed that when it comes to
Prison Break and other straight characters like Michael Scofield, he’s moving on.“I'm out. Of PB. Officially,” he shared with fans in a post that did not include any pictures. “Not bec of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don't want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told),” he continued. “So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons... I understand this is disappointing. I'm sorry.”
Fans of the Fox drama, which centered on an innocent man trying to break out of jail (and stay out of jail) for five seasons, have been hoping for new content ever since the series returned for a limited edition run in 2017. Earlier this year at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour in Pasadena, Fox boss Michael Thorn
sparked hope when he said there was a possibility of a new
Prison Break or a spinoff. While Miller may feel sorry for disappointing expectant fans with his commitment to not returning to the show, one thing he won’t apologize for is being himself. “If you're hot and bothered bec you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one...That's your work,” he added.“It was fun mate,” replied Wentworth’s
Prison Break co-star and onscreen brother Domimic Purcell in the comments. “What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for your health and your truth. Keep the posts coming. .... love ya brother.”“With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, I’m voicing my support for that choice,” wrote another one of Miller’s
Prison Break co-stars, Sarah Wayne Callies. “To all the fans, know this: the cast of prison break is a queer friendly space. we stand with – and among – our friends & family in the LGBTQ+ community with full throated support for their rights and artistic work. all the time. always.”Miller came out to fans in 2013, four years after the initial run of
Prison Break ended. In this recent post the actor also called out people who leave negative comments on his pages, revealing he has no time for that. And specifically, Miller is concerned about what younger people might see or feel by reading those kinds of comments.“Obviously there are comments and DMs I appreciate less. Who are these people? On my page? What backwards-ass, Stone Age values country did they crawl out of? The U.S.? I won't be disappearing (too many cool things to repost). The ability to comment likely will,” the U.K.-born actor also wrote in his post. “I'm not concerned for myself. I can't be ‘bullied’ in this space. I have too much power. ‘Delete. Block. Deactivate.’ Etc. But I take seriously the possibility of queer kids visiting here, recently out of the closet or exploring the idea... I don't want them exposed to bullshit.”[video_embed id='5491194221001']Before you go: Shiba inu puppy makes epic prison break[/video_embed]
