There are very few people on this planet who don't love Dolly Parton—she just appeals to so many walks of life and generations. Yeah, she was your granddad’s music, and your mom’s, and she’s yours also (don’t try to deny it). The country music queen from Tennessee not only loves her own melodies, but she also loves it when you perform her music. This week, Glamour Magazine had Dolly do an episode of their "You Sang My Song" series and had her react to some budding musicians' covers of her greatest hits. Without a doubt, the buxom blonde with the infectious laugh had nothing but high praise for all the Dolly-wannabes.All different kind of musical acts, from rock bands, to country crooners, to soulful singers, to R&B trios, and even ukulele strummers (we love the uke!) tried their hand at Dolly classics, like “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “Jolene,” all without knowing that Dolly would watch their videos. This wasn’t just a Dolly-reacts segment, the cover artists also reacted to her reaction. It’s like Reactionception.
“I'm honoured always to hear people record my songs and to hear them done different ways,” she explained in her thick southern drawl while watching the cover artists. “It's just fun and exciting to a songwriter to hear your songs done different.”When the first band Love Raptor watched Dolly’s glowing reaction to their cover of “9 to 5,” they nearly lost their dang minds. “I can die happy, I’m done, like stick a fork in me, I’m done,” the lead singer gushed. “I'm completely floored, I’m so happy, she's such an idol! To know that she knows I exist, nonetheless think I’m a good singer is like... I can die happy!”As musician after musician covered her hits, it became obvious that Dolly wants nothing more than to uplift and encourage new and emerging musicians. She never had anything but kind words and heaps of praise or each new and different act. See, this is why the world needs more Dolly: she’ll never bring you down (unless Jolene does steal her man one day, then all bets are off).[video_embed id='1933786']RELATED: Dolly Parton reads children's bedtime stories in new weekly video series [/video_embed]“As a songwriter or as singer, it means a lot when other people pay tribute to you like that,” she explained. “There's nothing like a good song; they're the ones that kind of make it. And I didn't write all the songs that all you were singing today, I wrote most of them, but I did sing them! And so it's a great honour to have people out there to think that something I have done in my life, which was my dream to make it as a singer-songwriter, and to think that I have and done it in such a way to where now even younger generations like you or other people out there know them well enough to sing it—what a great tribute what a great honour!”“You brought me a lot of joy today that just lifted my spirits!”Oh, Dolly.
