Hafthor Bjornsson, the man who played Cersei’s strongman Ser Gregor Clegane (aka The Mountain) on
Game of Thrones, has had a pretty epic couple of weeks — including setting a new world record. Following the announcement that the actor and bodybuilder was expecting a baby boy with his partner Kelsey Henson (check out their cute Instagram gender reveal video
here), Bjornsson has made history with a record-setting deadlift totalling a weight of 1,104 lbs (501 kilograms). That’s about 396 lbs short of lifting a Smart Car. With your bare hands. To break the existing record, the Icelandic actor had to add just two pounds to the weight lifted by the previous record-holder, the UK’s Eddie Hall — Hall’s lift has been on the books as the heaviest weight ever hefted since 2016. Following Bjornsson’s impressive feat of strength, The Mountain decided to challenge his rival to a boxing match (once humans are allowed to make physical contact with each other again, we assume)."I just knocked out your record and now I’m ready to knock you out in the ring,"
Bjornsson said in an ESPN segment about his latest achievement. "Time to put your fist where your big mouth is and sign the CoreSports contract. I’m ready. Are you ready, Eddie?"Please tell us that Lena Headey is free to officiate. The 6’9, 452-pound Mountain live streamed his lift on Instagram from his gym in Kópavogur, Iceland, settling in for a chat with ESPN’s commentators post-victory to answer his fans’ most burning deadlift question, namely, ‘Dude, are you okay?’ Apparently, he is. "Not only did I pull this incredible weight, I also feel great afterwards," Bjornsson said. "I’m standing here, tall, feeling good. No injuries. So I’m healthy as well. I believe today I could have done more, but what’s the point? I’m happy with this. My family and friends, they’re happy. And I’ve decided to call it."
