Four years after Kanye West released his single “Famous” and included a derogatory lyric about Taylor Swift—a lyric West claimed the popstar approved—a longer version of the phone call between the pair has now been leaked online. In the 25-minute video that is circulating on Twitter, it appears that West never actually told Swift the full line he was writing about her. Is there a snake emoji for “I’m sorry?” Because Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are going to need to create one.To recap the long and all-around cringeworthy timeline of Kanye West and Taylor Swift, the pair first found their names linked when West interrupted Swift’s Best Female Video Award acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Music Awards. It was by all accounts a jackass move. Swift revealed in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana that the event caused years of psychological and emotional damage. In early 2015, the pair seemed to have become friends and posed together at the Grammy Awards. Swift later danced beside West’s wife Kim Kardashian during Ye’s 2015 Brit Award performance. That August, Swift gave a long and friendly introduction before West accepted his MTV Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Music Awards, the same night he announced his candidacy for president. Thankfully, that was just Kanye being Kanye.[video_embed id='1913641']RELATED: Harry Styles is cool with ex Taylor Swift writing songs about him[/video_embed]Then, in February 2016, West dropped his track “Famous” from The Life of Pablo and included the very gross line “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b**ch famous." Friendship over. West tweeted that Swift approved the line and Swift denied it, delivering her own famous line, “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.”West’s wife Kim Kardashian then got in on the drama, because 73 seasons of Keeping Up With The Kardashians doesn’t happen without some of it rubbing off. Kardashian told GQ Magazine in June 2016 that Swift had given her permission, and she had a video recording of the phone call that showed West talking to Swift with music producer Rick Rubin in the room. Kardashian later released a small snippet of the video, which was filmed without Swift’s knowledge, and began a social media campaign of snake emojis directed at Swift. A few months later, West doubled down on the controversy and released the music video for “Famous,” which included Swift, along with several other celebrities, appearing naked.Throw in more interviews, a Grammys speech by Swift dissing West, and an entire album dedicated to being hurt by a friend, complete with a snake-filled lead video, and that pretty much brings us up to this weekend’s video leak. It’s unclear who leaked the extended video (read the full excerpt on Variety), but it appears to confirm that West never told Swift the full line he would be rapping. Asking Swift to tweet “Famous” upon its release, West prefaced the line by admitting it was controversial. “You sound sad,” West can be heard saying after his long introduction about his new single. “Well, is it going to be mean?” asks an audibly nervous Taylor. “No, it’s not mean,” says West, who added that his wife Kim initially thought the line went too far, but now loves it. West then rapped the line “Too all my South Side n****** that know me best / I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex.” After a slight pause, Swift can be heard saying “That’s not mean.” It’s also not the line that made it into the song. According to the new video, at no point did West inform Swift he would be calling her a b***ch or saying that he made her famous. A relieved Swift can even be heard saying “I thought it was going to be like, ‘That stupid, dumb b**ch.’ But it’s not.”Neither West nor Swift have responded directly to the leaked video so far, though Swift has liked Tumblr posts. Swift’s longtime friend Todrick Hall has commented on the controversy, celebrating his friend.
