The physical and emotional toll of this U.S. election is real. Ever since voting stations closed on November 3, people across America (and of course Canada) have been refreshing their feeds and tuning into cable news for any and all updates on who will be the next president of the United States. Now, injuries are mounting.Case in point? Rose McGowan. The actress has revealed the election caused her to break her arm, but in the most indirect way possible. The Charmed star was walking on the stairs while checking for updates in the current political race when she took a stumble. She shared the results of her accident on November 5, live from her hospital room.“Reading US election results while on the stairs = bone break,” she captioned a masked photo of herself from her hospital bed, where she displayed the fresh cast on her left arm. Then, in true McGowan form, the activist took the opportunity to make a political point. “It cost $250 in Mexico for my emergency room visit, compared to a likely 10k hospital bill in California for the same accident. USA is not the land of the free, it’s the land of the overcharged.”
While the 47-year-old may be super invested in the election results (because at this point, who isn’t), it doesn’t look like she’s returning to America anytime soon. In response to her post one commenter asked her why she doesn’t just stay in Mexico, to which she responded that she definitely will be—at least for the foreseeable future. “I am,” she replied. “My father lived in MX for years, tia y tio are maestros in San Miguel DA, it’s in my blood to stay in the heart centred land.” In another comment she added, “I came here to heal my insides and it’s really helping.”No matter where McGowan chooses to reside, it’s likely she’ll continue to make her voice heard when it comes to the matters that are close to her heart. In addition to taking on Harvey Weinstein last year and sparking an important conversation with Natalie Portman over the latter actor’s Oscars look last February, McGowan has also been a proponent for destigmatizing the conversations surrounding mental health. And of course, she has also taken some strong stances against Donald Trump. “[We] are being held hostage by a terrorist regime…” she wrote in a since-deleted Tweet in January after the controversial airstrike in Iran. “Please do not kill us.”But just because McGowan has openly criticized Trump (and even accused him of causing a “worldwide sickness” back in 2016), that doesn’t mean she’s automatically pro Joe Biden in this current election. In fact, the actor has spoken out against Republicans and Democrats alike. “What have the Democrats done to solve ANYTHING? Help the poor? No. Help Black & brown people? No. Stop police brutality? No. Help single mothers? No. Help children? No. You have achieved nothing. NOTHING," she wrote in yet another tweet. "Why did people vote Trump? Because of you mother---ers."Meanwhile the world is waiting it out as the votes continue to be counted to the south of us. With only a few key states left to count (and the current President already calling fraud, as expected), a decision will hopefully be announced on November 6.[video_embed id='2049925']BEFORE YOU GO: 'Horse girl' from Alberta can gallop and jump just like a horse[/video_embed]
