When it comes to Taylor Swift’s love life, fans never forget. That's probably why a recent, seemingly innocent, Instagram post from ex-Swift-flame Jake Gyllenhaal has been getting some unintended attention from the Swifties. Perhaps they're nostalgic for the brief, near-perfect window of time from October 2010 to March 2011 when Taylor and Jake were an item. The post, which may appear innocuous to the casual observer and likely to the actor himself, brought to mind en masse, some lyrics from one of Swift’s many breakup songs—one the pop star’s huge social media following had
already associated with Gyllenhaal. In the words of
West Side Story star and Instagram commenter Rachel Zegler: “I’ll be honest mate you set yourself up for this one.”The photograph shows Gyllenhaal as a young kid with his hair is gelled awkwardly into a side part, black-rimmed spectacles perched on his nose, and a slightly nerdy collared shirt. You may already be humming the melody to Swift’s "All Too Well" in your head right now. If not, let us give you a little nudge: "You used to be a little kid with glasses in a twin-sized bed..."
The 2012 track, which astute readers will have noticed came shortly following the 2011 breakup, has long been tied to the dissolution of Swiftenhaal. (Okay, yes, we realize no one ever called them that). The breakup ballad includes the lyrics “Left my scarf there at your sister's house” (Jake Gyllenhaal has a sister!) and “Your mother's telling stories 'bout you on a tee ball team” (Jake Gyllenhaal once threw out the first pitch at the Red Sox game!). But in this single Instagram photo, Jake has come pretty darn close to confirming that he was the "little kid with glasses" in the song.[video_embed id='2045015']RELATED: Taylor Swift surpasses Whitney Houston for most weeks at number one [/video_embed]Gyllenhaal posted the bespectacled throwback photo in an effort to raise awareness for an education initiative called
Project Human: Changing the Way We See the World. As a side effect, he also raised the awareness of Swifties, who bombarded the comments section with the notorious line while others demanded that he finally return Taylor’s scarf. Some posted the lyrics for the entire song (so thorough!). It all amounted to a comment section that was basically an ode to Swift’s songwriting skills (in the end, the relationship actually seemed secondary).Swift herself did not weigh in (why bother when your fanbase will do it for you?), perhaps because she’s too busy celebrating her
record-breaking moment as the woman who has spent the most weeks in Billboard’s number one spot, unseating previous chart queen, Whitney Houston.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Dog can't hide guilt after destroying toy taco[/video_embed]
