And we thought Bob Dylan and JFK were an odd couple. Now, a new musical pairing has us scratching our heads in wonder (also: delight). Rocker Jon Bon Jovi, with an assist from Royal Prince Harry, has dropped a new track, recorded just last February as a celebratory anthem for Harry’s most beloved cause, the Invictus Games. Fostered by the Duke of Sussex, the Games have been held each year since 2014 as a platform for wounded or sick armed services members and veterans to compete in a wide variety of sporting events. ‘Invictus’ being the Latin word for ‘undefeated.’This year, the games have been postponed and won’t return to the field or court until mid-2021, due to (insert your wildest guess here) the novel coronavirus. Hoping to uplift and inspire the competitors who look forward to participating in the games each year, Bon Jovi and Prince Harry released the song, a new version of the 2019 recording ‘Unbroken.’ The updated version features singers from the Invictus Games Choir — and yes, since you asked, there is footage of Harry and Jon in the recording booth.

Bon Jovi, who has sung with William in the past, assures us that “both [brothers] have a set of pipes.” Will we ever truly know? The inspiration for Bon Jovi’s song came from the military documentary, To Be Of Service and the rocker recently told People how he came up with the idea to involve the Prince and the Games. “I thought, ‘I want to send it to Harry for the Invictus Games and to have real soldiers singing the song.’ I thought [it] would bring a lot of attention to the issue. I wrote him a letter and I said ‘I’ve sung with your brother and met your father’ and so I said listen to it and let me know. And he said, ‘Absolutely.’”Check out the recording process and hear the Invictus Games Choir lay down their part below and see the full video version of the song here.
