Sofia Vergara is reportedly in talks with NBC about filling one of the two empty judges’ seats on America's Got Talent. The actor is currently filming the 11th and final season of the hit sitcom Modern Family, which is set to end in the spring of 2020. Following the show’s finale, Vergara is free to explore new TV opportunities and it looks like she could be heading to AGT.Variety reports that Vergara met with producer Fremantle this week to begin discussions about the possibility of joining AGT. The reality talent show did not renew the contracts for judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough in the fall and rumours quickly spread that the women were subjected to a toxic workplace, which included constant remarks about their bodies and in Union’s case, criticism that her hairstyles were ‘too black.’ Sources close to the show revealed that Union had repeatedly brought up issues with producers over racist jokes made by contestants and guest judge Jay Leno but was largely ignored. Union has been publicly supported by husband Dwyane Wade and actor Ellen Pompeo. On December 16, she spoke at a women’s summit about losing her high-profile job. “Don’t be the happy negro that does the bidding of the status quo because you’re afraid,” said Union. “Don’t allow them to call you angry when someone else is called passionate. It’s terrifying,” before adding, “There’s a solid chance you’ll lose your job … I speak from experience.”Hough, who had two specials airing with NBC this month, has maintained that her experience with AGT was positive. If Vergara does join AGT, it will hopefully come after some major changes at the show. A third-party investigation into the working conditions at the Simon Cowell-produced series is currently underway. Vergara joined Modern Family during the show's first season in 2009, earning four Primetime Emmy nominations for her role as Gloria Pritchett. In 2012, 2013 and 2016, Vergara was named the highest paid American actress thanks to Modern Family and her endorsement deals with CoverGirl, Diet Pepsi and Head and Shoulders. Vergara has continued to appear on the big screen throughout the filming of Modern Family, starring in films like Chef, Hot Pursuit, The Female Brain, and Bottom of the Ninth, where she appeared opposite her husband Joe Manganiello.Variety reports that Vergara is also in talks with Netflix about possible projects post-Modern Family. In addition to acting, Vergara also heads her own production company RAZE, which has deals with Netflix and Hulu.
