Sofia Vergara shares 'stressful' mammogram on election day

Sofia Vergara spent an already stressful election day doing something just as important as voting. The America's Got Talent judge shared a selfie from her doctor's office on November 3rd letting her followers know that she got a mammogram.The 48-year-old actress wanted to make sure her followers remembered to get their regular breast-cancer screening by posing in the examination room in front of a machine. "And just to make today more stressful I went and got my mammogram," Vergara captioned her post, adding the hashtags, "#allgood" and "#dontforgetyours."The Canadian Cancer Society suggests that women 40 to 49 years old should talk to their doctors about their risk for breast cancer and learn about the benefits and limitations of having a mammogram. It's also suggested that women ages 50 to 74 should have a mammogram every 2 years. A mammography is an x-ray of the breast and considered to be the most reliable way to detect breast cancer early in women.

The Modern Family actress didn't have to worry about waiting in line to cast her ballot on Tuesday because she had already voted several weeks earlier. She shared a selfie with her "I Voted" sticker on October 9th. "Today I used my right to vote. When we vote, we see change. I hope this inspires you to make sure you're registered, to have a plan and to VOTE!!" Vergara captioned the post.

The Colombian actress was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000 but she didn't talk about her cancer battle publicly until 2011. "I didn't want publicity because of that," she told Health at the time. "Having cancer is not fun. You don't want to deal with anything else while you're going through it." She revealed that she underwent surgery and treatment to beat the thyroid cancer.We stan Vergara for not being afraid to talk about important topics like breast cancer screenings.
