Saturday Night Live comedian Michael Che has revealed that his grandmother is one of the latest victims to the devastating COVID-19. The Weekend Update anchor shared the tragic news in a lengthy Instagram post, where he discussed his feelings of pain, hurt and confusion over her untimely death.“Hi. I’m Michael Che, from TV. Last night my grandmother passed away from the coronavirus,” wrote the comedian in what is now the only post on his Instagram page. “I’m doing OK, considering. I’m obviously very hurt and angry that she had to go through all that pain alone.”The 2018 Emmys host said that the devastation of losing a loved one feels even more confusing because of the circumstances. Writing that he is happy his grandmother is no longer in pain, Che discusses the complexity of grief. “I also feel guilty for feeling happy. Basically the whole gamut of complex feelings everybody else has losing someone very close and special. I’m not unique. But it’s still scary. I don’t know if I’ll lose someone else to this virus. I don’t know if I’ll be lost to this virus. Who f**king knows?”Che said that part of the frustration he feels over his grandmother’s passing is in part due to what he says is misinformation being shared by officials. “I’m just frustrated because there’s so much we still don’t know about it, and I don’t think we are getting the whole truth,” writes Che.[video_embed id='1935323']RELATED: Advice on preventing and treating COVID-19[/video_embed]The comedian also took on the media for focusing more on the rising death toll instead of telling people that they should be eating healthy. “Make sure you’re getting your vitamins, and water, and probiotics, and dark leafy greens, and all that other good stuff I never thought twice about until the last couple of weeks,” writes Che, noting that people should be working on boosting their immune system. “Look, I know how easy it is to sit around eating cookies and shit in quarantine. Believe me. That’s my jam,” writes Che. “But this virus seems to affect people with pre-existing health conditions and you know how you get a lot of those pre-existing health conditions? Sitting around and eating cookies.” Che also touched on the marketing of unhealthy fast food options, especially in the black community.

Several times throughout the post, Che referenced the theory that COVID-19 began from a human eating an infected bat. The comedian appeared to turn off the comments for his post but did allow friend and fellow comedian Amy Schumer to share her thoughts. “I’m so sorry honey,” wrote Schumer. “They don’t eat bats because they’re adventurous. They eat them because they are poor. At its most basic level this is about imbalance of wealth.”The elderly population is one of the most at-risk groups for contracting COVID-19. Although Che does not specify where his grandmother was when she died, the SNL comedian grew up in and continues to live in New York, a state that has been hit especially hard by Coronavirus. As of April 6, New York had more than 119,000 reported cases of COVID-19.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: COVID-19 threat results in massive crowd outside Brooklyn Costco[/video_embed]
