Fans of Sex and the City may still be fuming over Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw picking Mr. Big (Chris Noth) over Aidan (John Corbett), but in a new interview with author Candace Bushnell, it appears as though Aidan never had a shot at being Bradshaw’s end game. At least not for Bushnell. Was he too handsome, too kind, too good to Carrie and her friends? Yes. And also, Bushnell’s mother didn’t like him. If we’ve learned anything from Charlotte York, you have to have the mom/Bunny on your side."I'm never gonna be Team Aidan," said Bushnell on the latest episode of the Bradshaw Boys, a SATC rewatch podcast. "I can't for a variety of reasons but one of the reasons is that my mother hated Aidan. She would watch and she was like, 'I hate that Aidan. He's so wrong for her!' My mother hardly ever watched TV,” laughed Bushnell. “My mother was always saying, ‘get rid of him.’ I was like, ‘mom, it’s not up to me, I don’t write the show. I can’t do it.’”[video_embed id='1411330']RELATED: Was Sex and the City racially problematic?[/video_embed]Most SATC fans are probably mentally rewinding every episode of the HBO series right now in an effort to figure out how anyone could hate Aidan. He made Carrie furniture! He switched engagement rings to one that was more her style! He went to Miranda’s mom’s funeral! He had one of the first TV glow-ups! We couldn’t help but wonder, what’s the deal with Aidan?Although Bushnell wasn’t Team Aidan, she was Team John Corbett, who played the lovable furniture designer. "I did go to dinner with John Corbett. I kind of went out to dinner with him, it was romantic, but all I could think was, 'My mother's gonna kill me,’” said Bushnell. Fortunately for Bushnell’s mother, the pair were not meant to be. Following their dinner date, Corbett went back to Los Angeles and began dating Bo Derek. “You cannot compete with Bo Derek, forget it,” said Bushnell. The author, who in addition to writing Sex and the City also penned the book to TV adaptations Lipstick Jungle and The Carrie Diaries, revealed that she almost had a major role on the series. Bushnell’s own real-life Mr. Big eventually married someone else, a storyline that was mirrored on SATC. Showrunner Darren Star, a close friend of Bushnell, asked if she was interested in playing Mr. Big’s wife. Bushnell turned down the role that eventually went to actor Bridget Moynahan and culminated in a dramatic moment with Moynahan falling down a set of stairs. "They had an actress, she couldn't do it, he's like, 'Come down here and play Natasha.' I was like, 'I'm busy, I cannot come to the set.'" Too meta? Too meta.Sex and The City ended in 2004 (watch the series now on Crave) and returned to the big screen with film adaptations in 2008 and 2010. A third film has been rumoured for years, but a rift between Kim Catrall and Parker has stalled the project from moving forward.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Exhausted puppy falls asleep during the middle of a parade[/video_embed]
