Selena Gomez made her return to the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night and opened the show with a double performance of her new singles “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.” The popstar stepped away from the spotlight over the past two years to seek treatment for emotional and mental health issues and it appears as though Sunday’s performance may have been too soon for the singer to take on such a high-pressure situation while in recovery.Gomez seemed uncertain of her vocals and choreography throughout the performance, even missing a few notes during her personal heartbreak track and moving slowly with her backup dancers when it came time to speed things up for her dance number. emotional breakdown’ in 2018.While a panic attack may have been the cause of Gomez’s shaky performance, it could also have been a sound issue. Fans who were in attendance at Sunday’s show tweeted that Gomez’s vocals sounded
vastly different from the audio feed coming through on broadcast.
Billboard confirmed there were sound issues, writing “the press room is having a hard time hearing anything with the volume turned way down on the monitors.” It’s possible that Gomez either couldn’t hear herself or that the audio of the performance was negatively impacted by poor recording.Thankfully, it looks like Gomez made a quick recovery. Artist of the Decade, later smiling and dancing with Swift’s parents. Gomez also took to social media to thank her fans for their support following her return to the AMA stage. Sharing pictures from the red carpet, Gomez wrote “Feels good to be back. Thank you to my entire team and to my fans that stand by me. All of this is for you and because of you. excited for this chapter.”
That next chapter is Gomez’s highly anticipated new album SG2. The singer announced the record earlier this month, revealing a January 10, 2020 release date and teasing that an official title and artwork are still to come. “This album is my diary from the past few years and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” said Gomez.
