Selena Gomez has had a busy year on top of her singing and acting career: she launched her beauty and makeup line “Rare Beauty,” and also launched her first at-home cooking show Selena + Chef (stream now on Crave), so 2020 has definitely been a year of firsts for her. To add to her bucket list, the “Love You Like A Love Song” singer admitted this week that 2020 has been her first time voting in an American presidential election. While making an appearance on Voting Power Hour, she was asked via video-chat if she could talk about her first voting experience, and that’s when she admitted that 2020 marks the first time she marked a ballot. The reason being? She didn’t think her vote mattered.“Honestly, I’m not ashamed to say this but I kind of—this was my first time,” she said.  “And I’m going to say that because I never felt—and this is so true, and I’m now like admitting it to people—like my vote counts. Like, every little thing counts so I just think some people get in their head, like, 'Oh well, what does it matter?' And then once I really, really started going in and diving in to this, it’s been all I can focus on.”See her answer the question at the 48-minute mark of the show below.
Her admission is a good reminder that young people can often feel disillusioned and far-removed from the world of politics. However, your vote DOES matter, and it’s always important to exercise your democratic right to a say.“My main focus has been this right now,” she continued later. “You can tell on my social media and everything, obviously, I’m super invested in this right now. It’s been good. I feel hopeful.”[video_embed id='2063729']RELATED: Is Sasha Obama the next TikTok star?
