A trio of comedic geniuses have teamed up to entertain your kids:
What We Do In The Shadows and
JoJo Rabbit director Taika Waititi has launched a fundraiser in which he reads Roald Dahl’s
James and The Giant Peach with some of his funniest friends, like Canadian actor and
legendary Hugh Jackman troll Ryan Reynolds. The project is meant to support
Partners In Health, an organization that “works on the front lines with some of the most vulnerable communities in the world” in building healthcare systems that cater to underserved areas and people—a service that’s desperately needed during a pandemic. The YouTube-based storytime project is now five episodes in, with each episode featuring a different roster of stars reading along with Waititi. So far, the New Zealand writer-director has hosted Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch and Nick Kroll and he most recently he posted a
making-of video showing himself and Reynolds getting down to work on their designated chapter. Things go delightfully off the rails almost immediately.
Reynolds has been spending his time in quarantine by keeping busy buy giving back, like delivering a quippy commencement speech to the graduates at his former Vancouver highschool (and springing
for pizza, too), participating in the uplifting
Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble broadcast and putting aside his fake celebrity feud with Hugh Jackman
by going All-In with his nemesis for Leonardo DiCaprio’s COVID relief challenge. His
Giant Peach contribution might be a new favourite, though—if only because we can see from the video that Ryan is reading the “scented peach” version of the book. Each episode of the reading series is available to watch on YouTube with new installments released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and viewers are encouraged to donate to the cause if they can.[video_embed id='1931357'RELATED: Ryan Reynolds made a special online appearance at Toronto's Sick Kids hospital[/video_embed]
