Ruby Rose is opening up about her Batwoman exit juuust enough to let fans know there's a lot going on behind the scenes. Following last week’s shocking news that Rose would not be returning as the show’s lead for the already greenlit second season, the Australian actor has released a second statement that hints towards some truth in claims that things were tense on set between Rose and the showrunners.Last night, Rose shared a fan-made compilation video of her time as Kate Kane, cousin to Batman’s Bruce Wayne. “Thank you everyone for coming on this journey. If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags. But thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio,” wrote Rose, who quickly switched gears and left a handful of cryptic lines in her goodbye message.“It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know… I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community," she continued. "I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape.”
The actor hasn’t responded to requests by fans for further clarification on her Instagram page where the message was posted, but Rose appears to allege that her reason for leaving Batwoman will be revealed… eventually?Rose made history in 2018 when she was cast as the first openly gay lead superhero. A member of the LGBTQ community, Rose’s casting was exciting news for fans who would finally get to see a lead superhero on the small screen that reflected their experience. Unfortunately, Rose’s involvement in Batwoman has been marked with low points from the beginning. Following Rose’s casting announcement, the Pitch Perfect 3 star was forced to shut down her Twitter account after trolls accused her of "not being gay enough" to portray a lesbian on screen. The difficulties continued on set when Rose was involved in a stunt that herniated two discs. The injury left her in chronic pain and threatened to sever her spinal cord and leave her paralyzed if untreated, forcing Rose to undergo emergency surgery. According to Deadline, tension on set between Rose and the show’s producers and writers continued throughout the first season and created an uncomfortable work environment for everyone involved.[video_embed id='1961748']RELATED: Ruby Rose quits ‘Batwoman’ after one season [/video_embed]The latest update about her departure comes after Rose released a statement last week announcing she would not be returning for the second season of Batwoman. “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” said Rose. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.” The actor thanked the CW and Warner Bros. as well as Batwoman showrunners Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries. The studio also released their own statement, confirming that the show would go on. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we—along with the show’s talented creative team—look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”Gotham City remains safe for now.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Watch this husky totally ruin a yoga workout [/video_embed]
