It looks like Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix’s next project together will be more long-term than co-starring in another film. According to a source in Page Six, the couple are reportedly expecting their first child together.Mara and Phoenix have yet to comment on the rumors and both their reps have declined to confirm the news (which isn't surprising for the notoriously private couple). The vegan-activist-acting duo has been engaged since spring of 2019.According to Page Six, Mara has been spotted in public wearing baggy clothes lately, presumably to conceal her pregnancy. The website reports via their source that the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actor is possibly six months along and due to deliver her first child at the end of the summer.Mara, 35, and Phoenix, 45, first met in 2013 on the set of Spike Jonze’s futuristic love story Her. Mara played the childhood sweetheart and soon-to-be-ex-wife of Phoenix’s lead character Theodore Twombly (who inevitably falls in love with an AI machine voiced by Scarlett Johansson). It wasn’t until three years later in 2017, after working together for a second time on the biblical drama Mary Magdalene, that a romance began between the two.[video_embed id='1895858']RELATED: Joaquin Phoenix says research is the worst thing an actor can do[/video_embed]In a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, Phoenix made a rare reference to his long-term partner, speaking briefly about how his relationship with Mara began. Revealing that he initially believed that Mara despised him, he later learned that her behavior was an indication of her shyness. “She’s the only girl I ever looked up on the internet,” Phoenix said. “We were just friends, email friends. I’d never done that. Never looked up a girl online.” Somehow, that doesn’t surprise us. We don’t see Phoenix as a Facebook creeper. In the spring of 2019, sources confirmed that Mara and Phoenix were engaged after the media caught sight of a diamond ring on Mara's finger.Phoenix and Mara only make very rare appearances together, but walked red carpets arm-in-arm this past awards season while Phoenix made the rounds for his stint in Joker. At the Golden Globes, Phoenix gave a rare public display of affection toward his fiancée, calling Mara out by name before saying “I love you.” That’s about as much PDA as we will likely get from this uber private pair. The vegan activist duo also appeared together in support of Jane Fonda's climate change protest, Fire Drill Fridays, back in January.Mara and Phoenix have been keeping an even lower profile as of late, isolating in their shared home in Los Angeles since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Page Six reports that Mara has been spotted out in public visiting her sister, fellow actor Kate Mara, who also lives in LA. The older half of the acting duo is married to Jamie Bell and the couple welcomed their first child together in 2019.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Watch this majestic kitty catch treats with its paws [/video_embed]
