The first look at Rihanna on the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar is here and—surprise, surprise—the superstar looks stunning in her latest covershoot. Photographed during quarantine in L.A., Rihanna looks gorgeous in the spread, which  features the multi-hyphenate wearing designer clothes and Fenty Beauty products. Obvi.Wearing jewelry by Maria Tash and Anabela Chan (the latter of whom's oversized diamond-encrusted earrings have recently been featured in Beyoncé’s Black Is King visual album and Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” video) Rihanna stuns in a crisp white Fenty collared shirt dress on the cover, showing off a crown of braids. The cover story was written by journalist Kahlana Barfield Brown, who first interviewed Rihanna back in 2007 following the release of her massive third album Good Girl Gone Bad. An assistant beauty editor at the time, Brown writes that Rihanna’s warmth and support for those around her—particularly Black women—was evident within seconds of their meeting.

Our September 2020 cover star needs no introduction. At 32, Robyn Rihanna Fenty is already an icon, but the secret to her success might lie in how she has reimagined what it means to be one. In this issue, Kahlana Barfield Brown (@kahlanabarfield) reflects on the superstar’s singular path, from her philanthropic and advocacy work and activism, to her stellar music career and groundbreaking moves into fashion and beauty, where she has revolutionized industries that for so long catered to white women. But Rihanna’s success has been about much more than music, clothes, or makeup, but the way she has embraced her fans and made them feel not just valued, but like they have a voice. As Barfield Brown writes, “Beyond providing people in communities of color starved for accessible foundation that actually matched their complexions, the move seemed to communicate: ‘I see you when no one else does.’” Read more and see the full cover shoot at the link in our bio.⁣ #BAZAARxRihanna ⁣ Photographer: @graysorrenti⁣ Creative Director: @jenbrillbrill Profile written by: @kahlanabarfield Hair: @ursulastephen ⁣ Makeup: @priscillaono⁣ Nails: @kimmiekyees ⁣ ⁣ Rihanna wears @Fenty, @MariaTash, and @anabelachan

“Instantly I knew what kind of person Rihanna was,” writes Brown, who remembers being stunned when the superstar greeted her with a hug. “Underneath the veil of this superhero-ish, ultramagnetic, über-swaggy star, Robyn Rihanna Fenty was a real one—not fake real, but real real: a Black girl who wasn’t so caught up in her own celebrity that she couldn’t recognize another Black girl on the come up. Sure, it was just a hug. But the gesture was bigger than that. Rihanna gave off the type of down-to-earth vibe you’d expect from a homegirl you’ve known since middle school.”The new spread for Harper’s Bazaar features Rihanna wearing a mix of her own Fenty clothing line, as well as pieces by Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Max Mara, Saint Laurent and John Galliano vintage. Rihanna’s iconic style, which effortlessly combines streetwear and runway pieces, is accentuated by her inclusion of lingerie and bikinis from her own Savage x Fenty line. Even Rihanna taking out the trash is glamorous.
Adding in a handful of vintage t-shirts, Rihanna continues to be a walking contradiction who is at once the biggest star in the world and also someone fans feel they know and can relate to on a personal level. The article lists some of the countless ways RiRi has used her fame to take multiple industries by storm all while fighting for causes she believes in.From calling for justice in cases of police brutality; to imploring allies of the Black community to "pull up;" to creating size-inclusive lingerie, shade-inclusive foundations and, now, gender-neutral skin care—Rihanna is doing the work to use her platform for good. And that platform just keeps growing. Last week, the launch of Fenty Skin (her new line of vegan, oil-free and gender-neutral skincare products) sold out in minutes.
As part of the shoot, Rihanna also filmed a "Go To Bed With Me" segment and outlined her three new multi-function Fenty Skin products: the Total Remove It All Cleans'r (makeup remover/cleanser), the Fat Water Pore Refining Toner-Serum (serum/toner), and the Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer + SPF (30 SPF moisturizer). Extolling the environmental virtues of the line, Rihanna pointed out that her products, including the coral reef-friendly sunscreen, eliminate the need for makeup wipes and cotton pads which end up in landfills.[video_embed id='1799599']RELATED: This is what happened when Rihanna followed Jagmeet Singh on Instagram [/video_embed]Rihanna physically uses all three products in the new video, which shouldn’t seem like something that needs to be pointed out, but with the influx of celebrities touting their own makeup and skin care lines, actually putting the products on one’s face is a pretty big deal. Of course, Rihanna is the real deal.[video_embed id='2006013']BEFORE YOU GO: John Legend reveals what Chrissy Teigen thinks about his love songs [/video_embed]
