Rebel Wilson devoted a lot of her lockdown time to focusing on her health, a wellness journey that included exercise, habit changes, and healthy eating resulting in the actor losing in excess of 60 lbs. And while Wilson was aiming for an overall improvement in her health, it’s her physical transformation that people talk about most.

For her part, the actor understands the near-singular focus on the superficial. "People are so obsessed with it," she told The Daily Telegraph (via People). "But I get it. Oprah is one of my heroes. She's certainly struggled with eating issues and I would always watch her episodes when she spoke about that."

Wilson has taken the same route, being open and honest in the way she’s shared her journey both in social media and either the press.

“It’s never too late to improve yourself,” she wrote on Instagram last month, “to improve your health, your heart, your happiness, your harmony. For everyone out there just trying to be a lil bit better this week: go for it! Every bit counts. Every effort is worth it. You’re worth it.”

Still, there are instances when the attention on her weight loss can seem absurd. "In 2019, I had, like, four movies come out,” she told The Telegraph, “two which I [also] produced and one, Jojo Rabbit [in which she starred], which got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture," she explained. And yet the press coverage of Wilson spiked "when I do nothing except lose weight," she said.

Media obsession aside, Wilson remains proud of what she’s accomplished for her personal health and wellness. "For the first time in my life I've lost weight and maintained it. So I'm more proud of that fact. It worked because it was the whole lifestyle approach,” she revealed, “and dealing with emotional eating I'm not totally cured. I don't think you can be. But I've learnt to manage it — and it's not by reaching for a bowl of ice cream."

Wilson, who classifies herself as an introvert, says that her physical change has allowed her inner siren to emerge. "It's not about being a certain size or body weight or anything," she said. "It's just about loving yourself and loving the journey that you're on. And to me, the women I think are most beautiful are those who step into their own power."
