In the caption for the post, the estate wrote, “Prince dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, advocating for Black excellence, and spreading the message of 'Love 4 One Another.' In this note that he kept in his personal archives, he wrote a message that still resonates today.”
The note, which was posted on Sunday, June 7th, almost marks what would have been the ‘When Doves Cry’ singer’s 62nd birthday. Prince died in April of 2016 after an accidental overdose.
The estate also took to the official Prince Instagram account to post the music video for Prince's song ‘Baltimore,’ which he wrote in 2015 after a young Black man named Freddie Gray died while in the custody of Baltimore police. The video echoes much of the footage we are seeing today on the streets of America (and the world) after the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police: we see Black Lives Matter protests, as well as tributes to other members of the Black community who have needlessly died as a result of police brutality in America.
