Prince William and Prince Harry are continuing to forge their own paths following Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step away from their royal duties and relocate to Los Angeles. The brothers' latest move involves the separation of a charity that began after the death of their mother, Princess Diana. The memorial charity fund that was created in honour of Harry and William’s late mom has now been split between the brothers, who will invest the fund into charities their philanthropic mother would have likely supported.Set up in September 1997, the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was designed as a way to put money received from individual donors and legacy funds towards humanitarian work. Proceeds from Elton John’s “Candle In The Wind,” which he rewrote for his late friend and performed at Diana’s 1997 funeral, also helps fund the charity.[video_embed id='1990969']RELATED: Harry and Meghan discuss racial bias with the Queen's Commonwealth Trust[/video_embed]According to The Guardian, the Memorial Fund became legally controlled by the Royal Foundation charity in 2013, which Harry and William started together with William’s wife, Kate Middleton. Although the memorial fund no long engages in fundraising events or campaigns, it does continue to receive donations. Harry and William have overseen how money within the fund has been given to other charities and will continue doing so, but now the fund will be split between the brothers and their decisions will be made separately. The Guardian reports that William and Harry signed paperwork to separate the funds of the charity back in December before Harry and Meghan announced their plans to step away from royal life. At the time, Harry and Meghan had already split from the Royal Foundation, which has been renamed the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Harry and Meghan launched their own organization known as the Sussex Royal Foundation but were asked by the royal family to stop using the name once they left their duties. In April, the couple announced the name of their new foundation, Archewell. The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund has received around £21,500 in the past two years. According to The Guardian, Harry has asked for his share of the money to go towards his charity Sentebale, which helps those affected by poverty and suffering from HIV/AIDs in Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi.Harry and Meghan have yet to disclose the exact focus of Archewell. Since moving to the U.S., the couple has been spotted delivering meals to those in need during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Harry remains involved in the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014 as a sport tournament for injured and sick veterans. Harry was forced to cancel this year’s Invictus Games, which were scheduled to take place in the Netherlands in May, due to the coronavirus. The Duke of Sussex released a video on the Invictus Games Twitter page to celebrate Veterans Day and promised that the games will return in 2021. "I hope all of those in the Invictus family are coping well and supporting each other through this challenging time,” said Harry.[video_embed id='1990896']BEFORE YOU GO: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard open up about how quarantine has affected their relationship[/video_embed]
