Pete Davidson, O’Shea Jackson Jr. join Kevin Hart sneaker dramedy

Lace up your favourite kicks because Pete Davidson and O’Shea Jackson Jr. are teaming up for the latest movie from producer Kevin Hart, and from the sounds of things it’s going to have a whole lot of sole to it. As in footwear.American Sole is an upcoming dramedy revolving around two twentysomethings (Davidson and Jackson Jr.) who enter the world of after-market sneaker reselling in order to pay off college debt and make those "American Dreams" come true. However when they run out of cash and a shady investor seems to be their only way out, the dream turns into a nightmare.At first glance the idea might seem like a skid mark, but the sneaker business is very much booming in the States. In fact, a look at the markets reveals that the sneaker resale business could be a $6 billion market by 2025, which means this movie is very on-trend.According to Deadline, which first reported the news, STX Films is looking at American Sole as a kind of follow-up to last year’s box office explosion Hustlers, a.k.a. the Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu-led stripper drama. While the two movies are completely different in terms of plot (among other things), the idea is that both explore the idea of how to achieve the "American Dream" when the system is set up against you.Some fans may see Davidson landing the gig as further proof that he’s one of the most in-demand talents in the business right now. The Saturday Night Live star is coming in hot off of his Netflix stand-up special and his critically-acclaimed acting and co-writing turn in Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island. He’s also landed a mysterious role in the upcoming The Suicide Squad, and he’s voicing Marmaduke in that pooch’s upcoming big screen movie.As for Jackson Jr.? Well he’s been turning heads ever since he made his big screen debut playing his father, Ice Cube, in the 2015 flick Straight Outta Compton. Since then he’s appeared in a handful of other notable projects, including Just Mercy alongside Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan, and the Apple+ TV basketball series Swagger, which is inspired by NBA star Kevin Durant’s experiences playing as a young man.

American Sole is just one of several projects that Kevin Hart is producing in the next little while—he’s also busy with movies like Fatherhood, the TV adaptation of his 2018 flick Night School that he starred in alongside Tiffany Haddish, and the spy flick My Own Worst Enemy, in which he also stars. Then there’s the anticipated comedy Monopoly that’s he’s producing and starring in, which is yes, loosely based on the popular board game. And no one should forget that he created The Real Husbands of Hollywood, or that he’s also currently starring in and producing the Quibi series Die Hart.
