Pete Davidson has never shied away from talking about his personal life. Much of the material from the SNL star’s standup is centred around his most intimate moments, so it doesn’t come as a total shock that Davidson discussed his famous exes in a new interview. What is surprising is the moment the comedian says he realized things were over with ex-fiancé Ariana Grande.Davidson sat down with Charlamagne tha God for an hour-long interview that touched on the comedian’s mental health struggles, his burgeoning career, and his romantic relationships. In the exclusive new interview, Davidson said that the death of Mac Miller, Grande’s ex-boyfriend, was a turning point in their relationship.[video_embed id='1902902']RELATED: Pete Davidson jokes about rehab stay during stand-up set[/video_embed]"I think I said, like, 'I'll be here until you don't want me to be here,'" said Davidson following Miller’s death. "I pretty much knew it was over around after that. That was really horrible and I can't imagine what that shit is like. That shit is just terrible. All I do know is that she really loved the shit out of him and she wasn't putting on a show or anything. That was f**ked up and prayers to his family and all of his friends, still."Miller tragically died from an accidental overdose in 2018 at age 26. Miller and Grande first met when recording “The Way” together in 2012 and later dated for two years before splitting in May 2018. Soon after, Grande and Davidson began dating and announced their engagement in June 2018. Miller died in September and Grande and Davidson’s relationship ended the next month.
Charlamagne also asked Davidson about his thoughts on whether Grande was throwing shade at the comedian during her 2020 Grammy performance when she took off an engagement ring and placed it in a box. "I'm sure she was!" laughed Davidson. "She's the queen of shade. I get it. That's her job. That’s her aura. She has music to it, I get it,” said Davidson. “I hope people feel the same way about my jokes."The comedian said that he loved seeing Grande succeed in her career but admitted that it was difficult to have his identity reduced to being Ariana Grande’s fiancé. “It definitely hurts. I’ve been doing this [comedy] for ten years, so it sucks for a six-month thing to completely take over that.” The comedian added that having people question his career success and attribute it to his relationship was tough on his ego. “Not a lot of people knew anything until I started dating her, so yeah, it’s difficult and it’s definitely a little bit of a punch in the gut.”The interview also included Davidson giving his thoughts of his other famous exes, all of whom he speaks of highly. Davidson’s most recent relationship was with 18-year-old model Kaia Gerber. The 26-year-old comedian touched on the couple’s age difference, saying that the daughter of Cindy Crawford was much more mature than him. "If anyone was worried that I was too smart or like advanced for her, they do not have to worry at all. She was way, way smarter than I was,” said Davidson. The comedian did admit that age became a factor in their breakup."We were dating for a few months and she's very young and I'm f**king going through a lot," said Davidson, who checked himself into rehab while the couple were still together. "She should be having fun and shit. She shouldn't have to worry about some dude who has issues and shit."Kate Beckinsale, another of Davidson’s famous exes, also came up in the conversation. "All of my uncles freaked out," said Davidson laughing, adding that Beckinsale is, "F**king hysterical. Really, really funny. [She's] like one of the funniest people I've ever met." Like Gerber, Davidson’s relationship with Beckinsale ended while the comedian was seeking treatment. "I think I was going into another rehab. I must have a pattern, I wasn't right yet and she had a lot of acting and work to do," said Davidson. "She's a superstar."While Davidson admits that his romantic relationships can make it difficult for people to take his career seriously, he feels fortunate for getting to share his life with so many incredible women. “It becomes very distracting, but I’ve been very fortunate and lucky to date some really wonderful, beautiful, cool, talented women and with that, comes that [attention] unfortunately.”[video_embed id='1904784']RELATED: Pete Davidson is playing Nathan Fillion’s half-brother on 'The Rookie'[/video_embed]
