Owen Wilson has done a lot in his Hollywood career. But despite being featured in some of the most popular comedies of the last two decades there's one thing he's never been able to do: host Saturday Night Live.In a new episode of Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series Hiking with Kevin, the 51-year-old actor finally reveals why he's never accepted hosting duties on the legendary sketch show. “I get really nervous with public speaking,” he says. “I’ve never done any of those commencement addresses or Saturday Night Live just because I get too nervous.” Wilson also admitted to avoiding watching his first film, Bottle Rocket. “I get a little self-conscious watching stuff.” We feel ya.
While Wilson has never been able to bring himself to host, he did make one appearance on SNL. In 2016 he reprised his Zoolander character, Hansel, alongside Ben Stiller on Weekend Update. Wilson goes on to say he even dislikes getting dressed up. “I feel like it always gives me a bit of a panic of, oh, are you going to have the right tie? Where is the cummerbund and cuff links? It just seems a little nerve-wracking.”Wilson also reveals that his acting career had an unorthodox start: in military school. After he was kicked out of high school for cheating, he spent two years in the New Mexico Military Institute where he met writer, director and producer Wes Anderson. Together, along with Wilson's younger brother, Luke Wilson, they made their way to Hollywood. Reflecting on that time, Wilson said enrolling in military school was “something that seemed like a terrible thing at the time.” Clearly not!Wilson’s next film, The French Dispatch, is in post-production and scheduled to be released later this summer. Produced and directed by Wes Anderson, Wilson co-stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray.
