Miley Cyrus has never been one to hold back, but in a brand new tell-all interview with Howard Stern, the “Midnight Sky” singer seemed totally at ease opening up about everything—including her sobriety, Facetime sex, and her high-profile split from Liam Hemsworth.

As fans will recall, the pair were together (on and off) for about 10 years before marrying in 2018 and splitting for good in 2019. In between, there was also those California wildfires that burned down their house in Malibu. Cyrus revealed to Stern that she “lost everything” in that fire, and clinging onto Hemsworth and their relationship had a lot to do with that loss.

“Me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it and not wanting to go, you know, 'What could be purposeful about this?' I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him,” she told Stern. “And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.” So what led to the actual breakup? According to Cyrus, there was just too much drama.

“There was too much conflict,” she said, noting that she didn’t know if either of them ever really thought they would wind up married. “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don't get off on drama or fighting.”

Since the split both Hemsworth and Cyrus have moved on: he is with model Gabriella Brooks, and for a period earlier this year Miley was with another Aussie, Cody Simpson. She is now single, and revealed to Stern that dating in the times of quarantine has been hard. "I do a lot of FaceTime sex," she added. “It’s the safest sex. I’m not getting COVID. I am definitely not going to be doing anything that’s irresponsible for myself or for other people… it’s just ridiculous for anybody that won’t take the right precautions to keep each other safe.”

Stern also asked the singer about her rep of being a “free bird,” which Cyrus totally denied. She admitted she is looking for something solid, whether that be with a man or a woman. “I love structure. Structure keeps me safe and keeps me my best and I love to be anchored and weighted by people. I don’t want to be friends with feathers, I want you to be, like, cement for me,” she explained. “I love people, I love who I love, I’ve had relationships with all genders and I’m down. Right now I’m kind of in the mood for some D, but I’m down for whatever, honestly.”

In the conversation Cyrus also addressed her sobriety, which she has shared at length with her fans. It was just last month that she opened up with listeners about falling off the wagon when she appeared on an episode of Zane Lowe’s podcast. "I am always truthful," Cyrus further shared with Stern. "And a lot of people, their sobriety broke during this time. I was one of them. Luckily, I haven't gone back to using any drugs, but I was drinking during the pandemic."

Cyrus confirmed that her lack of sobriety in the past had nothing to do with her separation from Hemsworth, and she added that she doesn’t consider herself an alcoholic. However, she is aware how drinking affects her and her relationships with others. "I'm not the best partner; I'm not the best daughter; I'm not the best sister. I can be a little unreliable,” she continued. “So if that's an alcoholic—if we're not measuring it by how much we drink but how we perform as a human being—then I would say alcohol is a problem for me because I'm not at my best."

It sounds like Cyrus is back to being her best self now, what with all the love for the release of Plastic Hearts, turning 28 years old last month, and a newfound awareness of where she wants to be in general. “Drinking hasn't been—that hasn't been my demon,” she added. “But it does not get me going any further. If anything, it just makes me not reach my full potential, which is unacceptable to me. Like, I will not accept anyone or anything that causes me to not reach my fullest potential.”

Here’s to Miley continuing to reach that potential in 2021 and beyond.
