Meghan Markle and Adele have been two of the most vocal supporters for the victims and survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire and on Sunday, they both marked the somber three-year anniversary of the disaster with messages of love and hope.Markle sent an audio message to the volunteers of the Hubb Community Kitchen, an organization the Duchess has been an avid supporter of since its creation. “I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community,” said Markle according to the London Evening Standard. “And now what you have done is such an inspiration, you continue to give back, you continue to put love in action. And that’s really what Hubb is all about. We know it means love but you are the example of love in action, and that is your purpose."[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Meghan Markle shares her secret to being happy[/video_embed]Markle has made frequent visits to the Hubb since its inception by survivors of Grenfell Tower at the Al Manaar mosque. Volunteers of the Hubb have provided thousands of hot meals to refugees and other survivors and in 2018, Markle wrote the forward for the Together: Our Community Cookbook. Featuring 50 recipes from the volunteers who run the Hubb, the cookbook has sold more than 130,000 copies and raised more than £550,000 for the charity.“I’m so proud of you, so is Harry, and we are sending so much love to you from across the pond and thinking of you today, as I’m sure it’s a difficult day, but also one where you can look at how much you’ve accomplished in the past three years, and how you continue to give back and be an example for all of those around you,” said Markle. In April, Markle spoke to Hubb members Leila Hedjem, Cherine Mallah, Halima Al-Hudafi, Oxana Sinitsyna and Jennifer Odonkor about their ongoing work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which has included providing 250 to 300 meals for locals three days per week.On Sunday, Adele also marked the three-year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Appearing in the Grenfell United anniversary special that was livestreamed on YouTube, Adele can be seen around the 13-minute mark remembering the victims and celebrating the strength of the survivors. “I want to send my love to all of you today, and let you know that I’m thinking of you, as I always do,” said Adele. “Even though we’re having to do this in the virtual world, online, on 2020 Zoom life as it is, it’s still so important for us to mourn together and for us to remember that night and to reflect on that and also reflect on where we are now with that.”A supporter for Grenfell United, an organization dedicated to helping survivors, fighting for justice and working to ensure a disaster like this never happens again, Adele was emotional throughout her delivery. “There has never been a more appropriate time for us to truly exercise camaraderie, and compassion, and open-mindedness, and persistence. Persistence for answers. Persistence for action,” said Adele. “It’s a scientific fact that human beings are pack animals, we’re not supposed to be left on our own. We need each other to survive, and that is something that I truly see in action with the Grenfell community.”The Grammy winner shared her favourite memories of spending time with Grenfell residents and their children before promising to be part of next year’s anniversary memorial in person. “I have never been so moved or so inspired by a group of people before. Your resilience is second to none,” said Adele. “I miss you all, I can’t wait to see you all and like I said, I’m thinking of you today more than ever. Stay safe, say healthy.”On June 14, 2017, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of the Grenfell Tower, a 24-storey residential building in North Kensington. Due to the building’s unsafe exterior, which had recently been replaced with inexpensive, flammable cladding, the fire spread quickly. Expired fire extinguishers, a single entrance and exit, insufficient safety measures implemented by management and a delayed evacuation notice to residents have all been cited in the ongoing inquiry into the disaster, which killed 72 people, injured more than 70 and left hundreds homeless. The Grenfell Tower disaster was the deadliest U.K. residential fire since World War II. Many celebrities quickly stepped up to offer their condolences and donations to the victims following the fire, including Jamie Oliver, Lily Allen, Rita Ora, Simon Cowell and Adele, who was photographed comforting residents at a vigil that took place only days after the fire.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Watch this husky totally ruin a yoga workout[/video_embed]
