All you need to do is look at a typical gender reveal party, where blue means boy and pink means girl, to know gender biases still exist in today's world. But more and more, parents are keeping an open mind about how their children express themselves — and the world is better for it.Take Megan Fox. She was a guest on The Talk when she opened up to the panel about her eldest son Noah, and how much he loves fashion — dresses included. "Sometimes he'll dress himself, and he likes to wear dresses," Fox explained to hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve, Marie Osmond and Carrie Ann Inaba. "And I send him to a really liberal, hippy school, but even there — here in California — he still has little boys going, 'Boys don't wear dresses,' or 'Boys don't wear pink.' So we’re going through that now, where I'm trying to teach him to be confident no matter what anyone else says."She continued: "He had stopped wearing dresses for a while, he just wore one two days ago to school, and he came home and I was like, 'How was it? Did any of the friends at school have anything to say?' And he was like, 'Well, all the boys laughed when I came in, but I don't care, I love dresses too much.'" The way Megan is parenting, and wanting her boys to be confident in their choices, is clearly rubbing off on them.
You have to respect Fox not allowing societal gender roles to dictate how she raises her children, because why should she? These stigmas need to end, and humans need to open their minds and progress. Whether a boy wants to wear a dress or a girl wants to wear a suit and tie, they — and their parents — shouldn't be judged for going against the norm.As far as Megan's concerned, she just wants her boys to be true to themselves, have the confidence to do it, and not care what anyone else says or thinks. Which is what all parents should want for their children.
