It’s the end of the road for Mary-Kate Olsen and her husband Olivier Sarkozy. Multiple news outlets are reporting that Olsen has filed for divorce from the French businessmen after five years of marriage. Unfortunately, it looks like things are getting messy and Olsen is trying to fast-track the divorce proceedings because Sarkozy is attempting to have her removed from the couple’s New York apartment.According to E! News, Olsen originally attempted to file for divorce on April 17 but was unable to because of the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. Olsen and her legal team are now working to get things moving on the divorce after Sarkozy reportedly terminated the couple’s lease on their New York apartment without informing Olsen. The divorce ruling will help ensure that Olsen’s belongings are not removed by Sarkozy without her consent. TMZ is reporting that Olsen has until May 18 to move out of the couple’s shared home but is unable to do that because of the ongoing pandemic, which has hit the state of New York especially hard. Olsen has asked for an extension on the lease until May 30, but Sarkozy has reportedly not responded.[video_embed id='5355176467001']RELATED: Mary-Kate Olsen opens up about her marriage[/video_embed]There’s a lot to unpack here and divorce is always sad and difficult, but is anyone else surprised that even the very wealthy Mary-Kate Olsen has to rent? Along with her sister Ashley Olsen, the twins are estimated to be worth around $400 million. That doesn’t include Sarkozy’s net worth, which is estimated to be around $60 million. NYC real estate is no joke.Olsen and her team are apparently also pushing to have the couple’s prenup enforced. As noted, Olsen is worth considerably more than her husband and would understandably be looking to hang on to her money.Olsen and Sarkozy began dating in 2012 and were married in 2015 in an intimate Manhattan ceremony that notoriously included "bowls filled with cigarettes" for their guests to puff at their leisure. The French businessman is 17 years older than Olsen and has two children from his previous marriage to writer Charlotte Bernard. Sarkozy is the half-brother to Nicolas Sarkozy, who was the president of France from 2007 until 2012. The businessman and banker is currently a member of the Board of Directors for BankUnited. As for Olsen, she has maintained a successful career mostly out of the spotlight since leaving her work in television. Along with her sister Ashley, the young twins found international fame sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House, later making millions in direct-to-video movies and merchandise throughout the 1990s. The Olsen twins have since gone on to establish themselves as leaders in the world of fashion and design, launching the high-end brands The Row, Olsenboye, StyleMint and Elizabeth and James.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Dog looking to get pets at all costs![/video_embed]
