Marshmello is likely shedding a few tears this week after his custom truck was stolen and led on a televised police car chase before crashing into a lamp post. Probably. We’ve never actually seen the famous EMD artist's face, so he may not be bothered by this news at all.On November 5, Marshmello’s custom Ford F-50 black truck, which has a total value of $550,000 USD, was stolen from the service bay at a Ford dealership in California. The suspect reportedly rode his bike to the dealership, put his bike in the flat bed of the truck and drove off with it. Someone is definitely getting fired for leaving the keys in that thing. The raised monster truck was missing for hours before police spotted it in Malibu. According to
The LA Times, the suspect was driving erratically and caught the attention of authorities. The California Freeway Patrol followed the truck onto the freeway and eventually caught up to the driver when he exited onto city streets and crashed into a lamp post, knocking it over. Thankfully, it appears as though no one was hurt in the pursuit, which was televised on local news station
KCAL9.Dave Sparks helped to design the EDM artist's custom truck and shared two clips of the chase on his Instagram account. “When my homie/client @marshmellomusic @shalizi texts me late at night to tell me that his SMCO6x6 has been stolen and involved in a high speed chase,” wrote Sparks. “Got pretty wild for a minute there when they couldn’t stop it.”Deciding to make lemonade out of lemons, Sparks use the free publicity to his advantage, adding “Give us a call if you want one of these beasts for yourself.” Police reportedly tapped the rear of the truck in an attempt to force it sideways and also used a spike strip, two common tactics often employed to stop cars being pursued. Neither attempt worked and it wasn’t until the suspect ran into a lamp post and knocked it over that he was forced from the truck. So yeah, Sparks does good work.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of grand theft auto and felony evading police. Police confirmed that drugs or alcohol may have been involved. It’s unclear how much damage the truck sustained in the chase.Marshmello’s manager Moe Shalizi had reportedly dropped the truck off at the Ford dealership earlier in the day for servicing. KCAL9 reported that Shalizi had the custom truck built for Marshmello in 2019.The musician has yet to comment on the police chase, although he likely just got a new concept for his next music video. Marshmello has continued to have a successful 2020 even though the ongoing pandemic put a stop to his busy touring schedule. The EDM artist, real name Christopher Comstock, released the single “
OK To No Be OK” with Demi Lovato in September. In October, Marshmello won a
Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Album for his record
