Following its 2004 release, Tina Fey’s
Mean Girls has become one of the most iconic films in the teen genre. Starring Fey along with Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amy Poehler, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, Tim Meadows and Jonathan Bennett, the film continues to be celebrated annually by fans on October 3, the unofficial
Mean Girls day. In a new episode of Quizzed by
Billboard, Fey interviewed self-described
Mean Girls super fan Mariah Carey, who lived up to her title. It’s like she’s obsessed with the movie.Carey was dressed for the occasion, wearing an M necklace that was the same style as Regina (McAdams) and Cady’s (Lohan) initial necklaces. “When the movie was first released, I watched it literally every night,” said Carey, adding that she’s now revisiting the movie with her daughter Monroe.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Mariah Carey doesn't care about Grammys[/video_embed]Fey quizzed the Grammy winner on quotes and facts about the film, with Carey earning a perfect score. It’s like Carey has ESPN or something. Fey also shared some behind the scenes tidbits about filming, including the real reason Tim Meadows' character had a cast during the film. According to Fey, Meadows was pulling out of his driveway on his motorcycle and clipped his finger on his mailbox and broke his finger. That sounds slightly less painful than getting hit by a bus, but not much.Discussing their own high school experiences, Fey said that she most relates to Lohan’s Cady. “The one thing I do identify with is when Cady turns, and she’s just obsessed with Regina and she’s wasting so much time and energy. I was like that,” said Fey. “I was totally that way,” agreed Carey. “But I didn’t fit in at all being mixed race and moving 13, 14 times and having a Black father and a white mother and everybody was like, who is this weirdo? I was pretty mean because I was just trying to fit in and that was the only way that I could fit in. I had three shirts in rotation. My father didn’t invent Toaster Strudel.”
Carey also told Fey about the time in high school when she lost out on the role of Nancy in
Oliver. “I have a theory on why that teacher was giving certain girls certain roles. It was kind of a Coach Carr situation,” said Carey, referencing Dwayne Hill’s
Mean Girls character, who is exposed for having affairs with two female students. “I just rebelled against it,” said Carey, who signed her first record deal in 1988. “I didn’t tell anybody that I sang. Only my really good friends knew that I was writing songs and making demos at that point.”Although Carey voice her love for all things
Mean Girls throughout the interview, even quizzing Fey on trivia (yes, Damian did have a Mariah Carey poster in his room), the superstar did have one complaint about the film. Specifically, the soundtrack for the Plastics’ annual holiday dance routine. “I’m a little bit disappointed they’re dancing to ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and not my song, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’” said Carey. “But ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ is a bit older.”Fey quickly came up with a way to rectify the situation, which is to finally finish the script for the highly anticipated
Mean Girls 2 and cast Carey, who could also write a new holiday song for the film. Agreeing on the spot, Carey suggested she play a friend to Poehler’s ‘cool mom’ character. They’re not like the other moms. “I definitely want to be in it,” said Carey. “Maybe I could be her other friend who wears
sweat suits.” You go, Mariah Carey.[video_embed id='2028861']BEFORE YOU GO: These babies falling over is the cutest thing you'll see today[/video_embed]
