There are a few things celebrities are expected to include mention of in their memoir – their career highs and lows, their childhood, and of course, their relationships. Typically, we would assume that an engagement would be filed under the ‘definitely include’ category but, it would seem, Mariah Carey feels differently. Her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey recently hit the shelves and fans were quick to note that the iconic singer chose to forgo mention of her engagement to James Packer (a billionaire businessman, ICYMI). In a recent interview with The Guardian, Carey was asked about this editorial decision and well, let’s just say the tea is hot.

According to Carey, history can in fact be rewritten. Or, not written at all.

“If it was a relationship that mattered, it’s in the book. If not, it didn’t occur,” she said, matter-of-factly.

When asked for further details, Carey admitted, "We didn't have a physical relationship, to be honest with you."A jaw-dropping moment for sure, but not the only eyebrow-raising comment from Mariah's new interview. She's later asked if she thinks she's high maintenance, to which Mimi says, “You know what? I don’t give a s***." "I f****** am high-maintenance because I deserve to be at this point," she adds. "That may sound arrogant, but I hope you frame it within the context of coming from nothing. If I can’t be high-maintenance after working my ass off my entire life, oh, I’m sorry – I didn’t realise we all had to be low-maintenance." She continues, cackling at herself, "Hell, no! I was always high-maintenance, it’s just I didn’t have anyone to do the maintenance when I was growing up!”And when the Guardian asks if she minds being called a Diva, Mariah gives another legendary answer. “No! Who the f*** cares?” she laughs. “Honestly! ‘Oh my God, they’re calling me a diva – I think I’m going to cry!’ You think in the grand scheme of things in my life that really matters to me, being called a diva? I am, b******, that’s right!”[video_embed id='2017704']WATCH: Mariah Carey ‘Rarities’ album on the way[/video_embed]Mariah and James Packer started dating back in June 2015, and Packer proposed the following year (with a 35-carat ring, to be precise). Clearly, the two didn’t make it down the aisle. Carey and Packer soon split while on vacation in Greece.

Although Carey never addressed the split in detail, sources at the time claimed she was blindsided by the break-up. After their split, Carey also reportedly sold the impressive (yet apparently not unforgettable) ring for a cool 2.1 million. A source at the time said that “the emotion behind [the ring] was something [Carey] didn’t want to hold onto.”

In 2017, the billionaire opened up about his whirlwind engagement during an interview with Weekend Australia magazine. “I was at a low point in my personal life. She was kind, exciting and fun,” he said. “It was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.” Clearly, she agrees.

Carey does, however, share plenty of insights about her relationship with baseball player Derek Jeter so, for all those juicy details, check out The Meaning of Mariah Carey.[video_embed id='2044336']BEFORE YOU GO: This hilarious TikTok sums up 2020 perfectly[/video_embed]
