Madonna’s latest social commentary has missed the mark according to many detractors online. In response to the death of George Floyd that's sparked international outrage, conversation and protests in his native Minneapolis and New York, Madonna shared a video of her young son David Banda dancing to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” and many are calling out her move as misguided.“As news of George Floyds brutal murder travels around the world my son David Dances to honor and pay tribute to George and His Family and all Acts of Racism and Discrimination that happen on a daily basis in America,” she captioned the video, adding the hashtags #davidbanda #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd #MichaelJackson.[video_embed id='1918726']RELATED: Madonna cancels shows amid COVID-19 outbreak[/video_embed]Brutal murder travels around the world my son David Dances to honor and pay tribute to George and His Family and all Acts of Racism and Discrimination that happen on a daily basis in America. Not every felt that Madonna’s response was welcome. Others defended Madonna’s decision to share the video of her son, saying that her intent was to speak out against racism. The Material Girl posted the video on May 29 as protests over Floyd’s death continue to rip through Minneapolis, where businesses have been burned and looted, peaceful demonstrators have been sprayed with tear gas by local police and a CNN reporter was arrested live on-air while complying with state police. On May 30, one of the four police officers involved in the incident was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. This is the latest misstep Madonna has made on social media in the past few months. In March, the singer posted a video of herself in a bathtub filled with rose petals while she called COVID-19 the "great equalizer." “What’s terrible about it is what’s great about it. What’s terrible about it is it’s made us equal in many ways. And what’s wonderful about it is it’s made us equal in many ways,” she went on to say. This would feel more sincere and in touch if the setting were almost anywhere else.Madonna did donate 100,000 masks to inmates in jails and prisons across the U.S., so she does know how to open her heart and her cheque book at the same time, but perhaps she should reconsider her social media posts and the messages they could be sending when so many are suffering.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: etalk hosts react to Tyrone’s comments about racism during an appearance on ‘The Social’[/video_embed]
