“I want to say that I am ashamed of the racism that exists in this country. We are taught to look at our police officers as helpful and friendly when we learn about ‘leaders’ in elementary school. Our ‘leaders’ have failed us today,” Reinhart wrote in a passionate thread on June 1. “I can’t begin to imagine the horror of worrying that you won’t be protected by your “leaders” because of the color of your skin. I know that white privilege exists and I could never fully understand what it’s like to be oppressed because of my race,” she continued. “I don’t have all the right words, but I stand by you. #BlackLivesMatter.”Reinhart isn’t the only Riverdale star speaking out following the death of George Floyd. Her ex-boyfriend Cole Sprouse recently revealed that he was among those arrested at a protest in Santa Monica, while co-star Vanessa Morgan called out Hollywood for the way black characters are represented. “Tired of how black people are portrayed in the media, tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous or angry scary people,” she tweeted on May 31. “Tired of us also being used as side kick non dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show. It starts with the media. I’m not being quiet [sic] anymore.”[video_embed id='1969669']BEFORE YOU GO: Trudeau pauses before answering question on Trump[/video_embed]I want to open up my Instagram to any influencer from the black community who wants to say a few words or share their thoughts— I will do an Instagram live with them and they can have my platform to speak about this issue. Any requests? Who should I reach out to?
