Drag Race fans, are you sitting down? The news today might be all too much for RuPaul audiences — not only is Canada’s Drag Race currently airing on CTV, but one of the show’s celebrity superfans has expressed an interest in appearing on the series. It’s none other than Riverdale star (and new dad) KJ Apa.

Apa, who plays Archie on the show and who just released a new album, “Clocks” apparently thinks that two careers and brand new fatherhood isn’t keeping him quite busy enough. Riverdale, he told NME in a recent interview, “has seriously shaped me into a person that is fine with no sleep. We’re constantly up all night on this job. No one on this show gets any sleep, so that part for me is easy.” So why not add another gig into the mix? Like, a drag career, perhaps.

Not that Apa claims to possess any of the charisma, uniqueness, and charm that RuPaul’s queens have, but he does have a history with the artform. Just look at his TikTok moves over on @fifiisqueen.

“No one’s asked me about Fifi before,” Apa said, “but she’s been living inside of me for a long time. I have quite literally known and messed with this character since I was eight, nine, ten years old. She allows me to express the feminine side of myself through moving and my physicality,” he explained. “My sisters would dress me up in drag as a kid – I’d put on lipstick and wear wigs and stuff – and I used to love exploring that part [of myself]. It was epic.”

Apa has yet to don what would be considered a drag lewk in his TikTok dance videos but when asked if that’s coming, he answered “Definitely.”

“I love watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and I’ve told my agents I want to be on that show,” revealed the actor. “But at the same time, RuPaul’s Drag Race and the characters on that show, they’re the real deal, they’re the most authentic,” the cis white actor acknowledged. “I don’t think I’d be allowed on that show because I’m not the real deal. But why did I share Fifi with the world? Because it’s not something that I feel like I need to hide. I am proud of Fifi.”

Yep. Us too. RuPaul’s Drag Race is currently available on Crave. Between that and Apa’s TikTok, consider your weekend planned.
