Kendall Jenner may have handed a police officer a Pepsi in a controversial, and eventually pulled, 2017 television ad for the soft drink company but she did not, she says, Photoshop a Black Lives Matter sign into a picture of herself in an effort to look as though she’s been out protesting. The picture has been circulating around the internet and drawing derision from keen-eyed social media users who’ve pointed out that the shadow behind Kendall is all wrong (it’s missing the sign) and the pic is a fake. The conversation got so heated that Kendall finally weighed in on Twitter, pointing out that she neither shared nor Photoshopped the picture in question. There have been no reports of Jenner joining her fellow celebrities (or family members like Kanye West) in marching alongside demonstrators during the wave of recent protests that have followed the killing of George Floyd at the hands of white Minneapolis police officers. She has, however, let her thoughts on the subject be known on Instagram. A week ago, Jenner posted on the platform, urging her followers to keep reading up on the subject of anti-racism and to continue to educate themselves. Kendall vowed to do the same.

to everyone reading this and to myself: keep researching, reading, and educating yourself on how we can become better allies. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking these past few days and my heart has been so heavy. I’m angry and hurt just like so many. I will never personally understand the fear and pain that the black community go through on a daily basis, but i know that nobody should have to live in constant fear. I acknowledge my white privilege and promise I will continue to educate myself on how I can help. raging on platforms can not be all that we do in order to repair the system, we need to take real action, off of social media. this is a time to have those uncomfortable conversations with people and mainly with ourselves. we must also make sure we are ready to vote when the time comes to elect the right people into office. the one truth that will always ring loudest is that BLACK LIVES MATTER. ❤️ rest peacefully George Floyd and all victims of this horrible injustice

She also acknowledged that she’s benefitted from white privilege and said that activism needs to take place both online and off. One way to do that, she wrote, is to make sure to vote in the upcoming U.S. election. It seems, however, that Kendall’s past connection with Pepsi and the police hasn’t been forgotten. Following her post denying she’d had anything to do with the unfortunate Photoshop, one cheeky Twitter user replied to thread, “Go girl, get your Pepsi” while another quipped about the utopia that would result in Kendall handing out the soft drink to the police as protests continue, sparked by the killing George Floyd by police on May 25.[video_embed id='1972309']RELATED: Kanye West marches with BLM protesters in Chicago[/video_embed]
