Katy Perry’s fifth studio album is finally on its way and we have the first single to prove it. At midnight, Perry dropped the lead single “Daisies,” an empowering song about Perry’s journey from a small town to the biggest stage in the world. The pregnant popstar also used her dreamy new video to show off her growing baby bump, putting her pregnancy glow to good use.Set in nature, Perry wears two white nightgowns as she angelically walks through waterfalls, climbs mountains of rocks and lays in the grass among the daisies. The video's aesthetic is late 1990s Hole meets the Twilight franchise and Perry looks comfortable and confident while performing her latest single. The popstar is embracing her new fuller form and even appears naked at one point in the video while standing next to a waterfall. If Annie Lebovitz and Anne Geddes collaborated, this would be the result.“Took those sticks and stones, showed ’em I could build a house/They tell me that I’m crazy, but I’ll never let them change me/’Til they cover me in daisies,” sings Perry in the uplifting new pop single, which the singer has been teasing for a week. The video was filmed and produced by director Liza Voloshin, who practiced physical distancing with Perry while shooting “Daisies.”
In an Instagram post that went live following the release of “Daisies,” Perry said that the song is a reminder for fans to be themselves. “I wrote this song a couple months ago as a call to remain true to the course you’ve set for yourself, regardless of what others may think. Recently, it has taken a new meaning for me, in light of what the whole world is experiencing. Each of us is one in more than seven billion, with our own story of strength and resilience to tell,” wrote Perry. “I hope it will be the soundtrack to going for your dreams now... especially the ones we left behind.”[video_embed id='1710274']RELATED: Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have finally ended their feud[/video_embed]Fans who are already practicing the lyrics to Perry’s new song will get some tips on how to perform “Daisies” from Perry when she appears on Friday night's celebrity packed In The House event by video chat app Houseparty. The three-day event kicks off on May 15 and includes a cooking segment by Snoop Dogg and Zooey Deschanel, a workout by Alicia Keys, and a music lesson from Perry on “Daisies.” The American Idol judge will also perform “Daisies” live for the first time during Sunday's finale.Perry’s latest music videos have acted as a pseudo-maternity shoot for the singer. In March, Perry announced her pregnancy in the music video for her single “Never Worn White.” The singer is expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, who already shares a son with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. Perry and Bloom have put their wedding plans on hold indefinitely in light of the ongoing global pandemic and have shifted their focus entirely to Perry’s pregnancy.“Not only will I be giving birth, literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for,” wrote Perry on social media following the release of “Never Worn White.” “I am excited. We’re excited and happy and it’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I like to tell you guys everything but I knew I would tell you in the best way, which is through a piece of music because that’s how I speak to you.”In April, Perry revealed that the couple are expecting a girl. The popstar posted a photo of her actor fiancé covered in pink icing, a photo that was taken at the couple’s gender reveal party.Perry has yet to reveal the title for her upcoming fifth studio album, which is expected to drop August 14. The new album arrives three years after Perry’s 2017 Witness, which included “Swish Swish” and “Chained To The Rhythm.”[video_embed id='1958191']BEFORE YOU GO: Can we see some ID?
