Katy Perry has had quite the year – on top of her hosting duties on American Idol going into flux when the show switched to an at-home format, she also announced her pregnancy right before we all went into quarantine. And then she released 'Daisies,' the first single off her yet-to-be-named new album, and performed it live from her living room with some trippy new tech that dazzled our eyes. Does this powerhouse woman ever take a break? With the due date of her baby girl fast approaching (the bun is still in the oven, folks), she and fiancé Orlando Bloom have been ruminating on their excitement.“He’s really excited for a little girl,” the ‘Firework’ singer told radio hosts Karsen & Kennedy of her handsome Pirates of the Caribbean partner, who already has a son from his previous marriage to model Miranda Kerr. “They say that little girls are daddy’s little girl. That’s how it’s going to be. We’ll see.”
Dressed entirely in a daisy-printed dress with daisy earrings (because, of course), the ‘Daisies’ singer expressed how, since she announced her pregnancy back in March, the whole world has gone topsy-turvy, which has of course affected her mood. “I’ve been overwhelmed, I’ve been anxious, I’ve been happy, I’ve been overjoyed, I’ve been depressed — I’ve been all of it. The world is just a wild time, and it’s a wild time to bring life into the world. I mean, people were already having those kinds of conversations years ago, where it’s like, ‘Man, the world feels a little uncertain.’ And now, it really feels shaky boots.”“Every day is a winding road!” she broke into song, singing Sheryl Crow’s famous '90s hit. “It’s get a little bit . . .  weirder!” But have she and the Carnival Row hunk used all their free time to come up with a name for their soon-to-be bundle of joy?“We have yet to decide specifically because I think we’ve got options and she’ll tell us,” Katy said via video chat. “I’ll look at her and go, ‘Oh yeah, yeah, you are her. You are that.’”Seeing as how she also hasn’t named her album yet, which is set to drop August 14th, this sounds about right. “I’m gonna have a child, I’m gonna have a record, I don’t know which one is coming first,” Katy laughed. “We’ll see!”But the wave of emotions she’s experiencing because of the pandemic, and the roller coaster her life has been over the past two years, have found expression in her new album, and she sings about that confluence of themes on the record. “It’s about finding my smile again and coming out of the darkest time of my life where I was clinically depressed,” she told Karsen and Kennedy. “I was on medication. I was in bed; I couldn’t get out of bed. I didn’t know if I was gonna live to see the next day. And all the while I had to put on a happy face and play that part as you do. I got through it, and I really did, and I got through it with my family, with Orlando, with other support, with therapists and doing some deep diving emotionally on some stuff I had been through.”“I went through a super journey the last two years and that’s what this record is about. And so, it’s a wonderful touchstone to me.”[video_embed id='1983390']Before you go: Reese Witherspoon and Regina King have virtual ‘Legally Blonde 2’ reunion[/video_embed]
