Katie Holmes is #craftingmom goals, especially when it comes to birthdays spent in self-isolation. The one-time Dawson’s Creek star and her daughter Suri may have been cooped up for the 14-year-old’s birthday on April 18, but that didn’t stop her from going all-out with the handcrafted decorations. Holmes shared some snaps on social media to commemorate her kid’s big day, complete with a Happy Birthday banner and flowers.“Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!!!!!! I am so blessed to be your mom. May the year be incredible,” she wrote in the first post, showcasing the banner. As fans of the 42-year-old actor know, it’s pretty rare for her to get personal on social media. That made her second birthday post, a shot of Suri from the back, even sweeter.

Suri’s floral crown seems to match the flowers on the banner, bringing the posts full circle. The handmade gestures also seem to be pretty in-line with Holmes’ parenting style; she has spoken in the past about the importance of crafting and creating in her household. In an interview with InStyle magazine for the April 2020 cover, Holmes opened up about fabrics and her own mother’s influence on such things.[video_embed id='5460187414001']RELATED: Katie Holmes enrolls in Harvard Business School[/video_embed]“My mother had a very successful drapery business, but then when I was born — I was a lot of work. So she gave it up. But my mom is an incredible quilter, and one of my sisters is an art teacher, so I grew up with that,” she said. “I've always wanted Suri to feel empowered [in that way] too. I remember asking her what kind of party she wanted for her fourth or fifth birthday, and she said a fairy party. So we went to the fabric store and picked out everything we needed for fairies. I wanted her to create things instead of having stuff done for her. That way she was always in charge.”It's unclear who thought of the floral theme for Suri’s 14th, but the look seems to suit her. One thing is for sure, and that’s that Holmes wanted to give her girl a special day. “I love her so much,” Holmes also said in the interview. “My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality, to make sure she is 100 per cent herself and strong, confident and able. And to know it. She came out very strong — she’s always been a strong personality.”What’s that saying? Like mother, like daughter? It sounds like Holmes wouldn’t have it any other way. “I was happy to become a mom in my twenties,” Holmes told Elle UK last year, of having Suri when she was 27 years old. “It’s been nice that our ages fit. How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.”Fans everywhere can’t wait to see what they’ll craft up together from self-isolation next.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Police officers help elderly man do his shopping[/video_embed]
