We all know at this point that Kanye West is, well, a lot. Not just in how he acts and behaves in interviews, or in public, but also in how he delivers his art. He’s not happy unless ‘Carpool Karaoke’ becomes ‘Airpool Karaoke,’ where a jumbo jet is filled with dozens of backup gospel singers. Or when he and Kim Kardashian West film interactions with other celebs just to leak it. He made his Sunday service a big celeb event, he made sure his latest album ‘Jesus is King’ went straight to number one, and let’s not forget the time he announced he’d be running for President of the United States in 2020, and then again in 2024. ‘Ye is as ‘Ye does. Now the latest issue of GQ has dropped and it contains an in-depth interview with the ‘Jesus Walks’ rapper, conducted over several meetings in January on his Wyoming ranch around the time that Kobe Bryant passed. The photography that accompanies the interview is lush and sumptuous, really highlighting the vastness of country life, with ‘Ye filling it so grandly. But then, as the intro moves into a Q & A style interview, we gain some insight into Kanye’s thought process, especially when it comes to politics.[video_embed id='1927597']RELATED: Kim and Taylor both respond to that leaked Kanye call[/video_embed]He has famously worn a MAGA hat, and he and Kim have famously taken separate meeting with President Trump on different occasions, so when GQ editor-in-chief Will Welch asks him to speak more on that and the upcoming American election, Kanye has a lot to say.“No, I’m definitely voting this time. And we know who I’m voting on. And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over,” he says. Can you hear the defiance in his voice from here? Because we can.He goes on to say, “Both my parents were freedom fighters, and they used to drink from fountains they were told they couldn’t drink from, and they used to sit in restaurants where they were told they couldn’t eat from. They didn’t fight for me to be told by white people which white person I can vote on.”The interview definitely has some brow-raising moments throughout. Even right off the top, when Welch simply says, “I’m going to start recording,” West replies to that with a rant that begins, “I think words are one of our lowest forms of communication.” Yikes, he just said he was recording, easy there tiger! At several points, he refers to himself in the third person, calls himself a superhero, and tries to get metaphysical with lines like, “Time and space are man-made constructs.”Wow. Deep. But we definitely feel for him as he expresses his remorse at the loss of LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who died in a tragic helicopter crash on the same day as the interview. Claiming Kobe was one of his best friends, he says, “The way that Kobe would say that we all have to come together and win this championship is the way I look at life now. To an infinite, other level. This is a game changer for me. He was the basketball version of me, and I was the rap version of him.”[video_embed id='1932820']RELATED: Kanye West’s high school artwork turns up on 'Antiques Roadshow'[/video_embed]
