Actors Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson have mostly kept their relationship quiet, but one thing that is becoming increasingly difficult to conceal is Turner-Smith’s pregnancy. The couple are going through the typical expectant first-time parent concerns, and in a new interview with the Sunday Times, Turner-Smith admits the issue of where to raise their child is at the top of the list.Currently living in the US, Turner-Smith told the Sunday Times via People that she’s scared to have a child in America. “The racial dynamics over here are fraught. White supremacy is overt. It’s the reason I don’t want to raise my kids here,” said Turner-Smith, adding “I don’t want my kids to grow up doing active shooter drills at school.”The British actress doesn’t think returning to her native country is an option, saying “England has gone off the rails.” Instead, the couple may return to Jackson’s home country of Canada. The Affair actor grew up in Vancouver, not far from where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently raising their son Archie. Not all celebrities need to be friends, but Markle and Turner-Smith are two women who have faced prejudice for their race and their choice in partners. Now that’s a supportive playgroup we can get behind.Jackson and Turner-Smith were rumoured to be dating in 2018 and were spotted picking up a marriage license in August. A source close to the couple told People Magazine that the pair were married in December and the couple both wore wedding rings while walking the red carpet at the premiere of Turner-Smith’s film Slim and Queen. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Turner-Smith declined to confirm whether they have officially wed. “I haven’t said to anybody, ‘Yeah, we got married’,” she said. “People are assuming whatever they want, but when people tell me ‘Congratulations’, I say ‘Thank you’.”[video_embed id='1839098']RELATED: Lena Waithe hopes 'Queen & Slim' will start conversations[/video_embed]Born in England and one of the only black children in her school, the Last Ship star says she was optimistic about moving to the United States with her mother and siblings after her parents divorced, but found she still did not fit in. “So, I was really excited when I came to America about meeting black people. But it was a huge culture shock, because I was rejected by the black community. They were like, ‘You talk like a white girl.’ People would call me an Oreo. All I wanted was acceptance,” said Turner-Smith.Even after finding success on TV and in films, Turner-Smith says that she still faces prejudice because of her skin colour and her relationship with Jackson. “There was this wave of people who were upset that I was possibly married to a white man,” she said. “In America interracial dating or marriage is not something that is as accepted. Certain people feel strongly against it, in both communities. I felt it from the black community. It is so complicated. I don’t want to give it too much energy. The horrific things that people were saying, it makes you. … I’m learning there are certain things I have to really keep for myself.”
