John Mayer is known for many things — his musical talents (obviously), his looks, his charm, and oftentimes, his dating life. The man responsible for “Your Body is a Wonderland” has, after all, long since established his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most eligible (and perhaps, notorious) bachelors. In fact, a fan
once wrote under one of his Instagram posts, “Beautiful! How are you still single?” and his response was simply, “Google me.” Over the past couple decades, Mayer’s romantic endeavours have included the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Rashida Jones, Taylor Swift and, lest we forget, Jessica Simpson. Simpson is of particular interest to us right now, as details in her new memoir,
Open Book, have inspired the masses to dig back into her romantic history. For those of us who need a refresher, Jessica began seeing John in 2006, following her divorce from Nick Lachey (A moment of silence for
Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, our reality TV guilty pleasure). In the memoir, Simpson speaks to their relationship in
intimate detail, explaining that Mayer was "obsessed" with her "sexually and emotionally”. She also noted that, although they were “great at intimacy and loving each other”, the relationship was very complex - describing their time together as "unhealthy" and "manipulative".[video_embed id='1882990']RELATED: Jessica Simpson worried John Mayer was too smart for her.[/video_embed]Last night, in true physical distancing fashion, Mayer made a virtual appearance on
Watch What Happens Live to chat with his long-time friend, Andy Cohen. Naturally, Cohen got right to the juicy details by leveraging a game of “Never Have I Ever” to ask Mayer about Simpson’s statements. Mayer said, rather anticlimactically, "I've heard about it. I've heard some bits. But as Pee Wee Herman says in Pee Wee's Big Adventure before the movie of his life is about to play out at the end, he's not watching the movie, and the reason he's not watching the movie, he says, 'I don't have to watch it, Dottie, I lived it.' And I think that's prescient here." Despite Simpson admitting that the pair rekindled their romance "close to nine times" over five years, she says things came to a head after John's 2010
interview with Playboy magazine, in which he described his former beau as “sexual napalm”. He also took the opportunity to admit that Simpson was "like crack cocaine” to him, and "Sexually it was crazy.” Understandably, Simpson wasn’t impressed with his grand reveal, staying that his "shocking" comments ended their on-off relationship. Well, judging my John comments on the memoir, maybe he's finally learned not to kiss and tell…? [video_embed id='1527136']RELATED: John Mayer revealed his sex number.[/video_embed]
