John Krasinski knows that many of us are spending the ongoing global pandemic staying home and watching re-runs of The Office for the seventh time, so he’s doing his part to bring a new feel-good show to the masses. Krasinski launched his Some Good News web series last weekend and started big,
reuniting with Steve Carell on the 15
th anniversary of
The Office, a feat that simply can’t be topped...unless you reunite the original cast of
Hamilton. Someone get this man a Dundee,
gold medal yogurt lid, and a World’s Best TV Host mug.Krasinski began the episode by sharing clips from the many, many new web series who not only ripped off his idea for a Some Good News show but did such a great job that he agreed to not sue them. For now. We’ll see how much money this thing generates. The actor once again kept much of the focus for the hard news segment on all the hopeful stories surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, which last week included big businesses like Bauer shifting their production to make masks and gowns for healthcare workers.
Krasinski also highlighted all the amazing work being done by people making masks in their own homes, local restaurants feeding those who are unemployed, and teachers who are continuing to show up for their students. That brought Krasinski to a very special segment dedicated to all the parents suffering through homeschooling for the first time. “Speaking from experience, having only homeschooled for two weeks, I’m damn near at the end of my rope and I’m only doing six-year-old math,” said Krasinski. “For those of you with kids over six, good luck and thank god for spring break,” added the actor, raising a large glass of wine to frustrated parents everywhere. We’re gonna need a bigger glass. Not to be outdone by last week’s premiere, Krasinski’s celebrity-filled cameos for week two kicked off with meteorologist Robert DeNiro, who was actually Robert DeNiro and not the
Jack Ryan star doing an impression. Academy Award winner DeNiro describing the weather as ‘pretty good’ is exactly how we imagined the legendary actor would characterize scattered showers and warming temperatures.Krasinski then threw to this week’s main story, which involved nine-year-old Aubrey missing her chance to see
Hamilton. The young theatre fan consoled herself by watching Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt in
Mary Poppins Return. Krasinski surprised Aubrey by introducing her to the real Mary Poppins, wife Emily Blunt, and ‘backup dancer’ Lin-Manuel Miranda.Krasinski’s offer to send Aubrey to
Hamilton when the pandemic is over was very exciting, but it turns out there is something that can top seeing the Tony-winning play on Broadway and that’s having the original stars perform “Alexander Hamilton” in a private concert. Joining Miranda was Leslie Odom Jr., Anthony Ramos, Daveed Diggs, Okieriete Onaodowan, Phillipa Soo, Jonathan Groff, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Andrew Chappelle, Ariana DeBose, Thayne Jasperson, Sydney James Harcourt, Ephraim Sykes, Javier Muñoz, Carleigh Bettiol, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Austin Smith, Betsy Struxness, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jon Rua, Sasha Hutchings, Neil Haskell, Stephanie Klemons, Morgan Marcell, Christopher Jackson, and Seth Stewart. Good luck beating that for the ‘Coolest Use of Zoom.’[video_embed id='1930879']RELATED: Steve Carell & John Krasinski reunite and talk ‘The Office’[/video_embed]
