If there was ever a time we needed some joy in our lives, now would be it. Actor, writer and director John Krasinski knows that and he’s doing his part to help lift the spirits of others by launching his own news show. Enlisting the help of his young daughters to create the logo, Krasinski aired his first episode of Some Good News on Sunday night and highlighted fell-good stories from around the world that are sure to make everyone smile. Not only that, but the inaugural episode of SGN also featured a reunion between Krasinski and the World’s Best Boss, Steve Carell. Now we’re fully sobbing. On March 25, Krasinski tweeted that he was looking for #SomeGoodNews and asked his followers to send him stories that helped make things seem less bleak. The Quiet Place star was met with an onslaught of heartwarming and inspiring stories from around the world and highlighted many of them during his 15-minute newscast. Krasinski shared several stories about first responders receiving thanks from the millions they are keeping safe daily during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also interviewed a teen from the U.S. who arrived home to find her friends and family lining the street to celebrate her final date of chemo. If you can make it through the first two minutes of SGN without crying, consider us impressed.
Krasinski filmed his SGN episode from his office, which he decorated with a Dunder-Mifflin mug, a fitting prop considering the uplifting YouTube series featured the reunion of Krasinski with his The Office co-star Steve Carell. The reunion coincided with last week’s 15th anniversary of The Office, a show that has continued to grow in popularity since going off the air in 2013. “It’s such a happy surprise that after all these years people are still tuning in and finding it, even today,” said Carell, who left the series in 2011.Going all the way back to the pilot, Krasinski said that the cast didn’t know whether the audience would connect with the mockumentary. "I was a waiter when I got that job, I was 23 years old," he remembered. "And after the pilot, I went back to waiting tables because I was sure nothing was going to happen with it. And we all kind of came into it with that vibe. I remember none of us had done anything huge."[video_embed id='1689375']RELATED: John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer are going head-to-head in the Stanley Cup final[/video_embed]“Some of my most fond memories personally or professionally are intertwined and connected with that show,” said Carell, who listed "The Dinner Party" as one of his favourite episodes. “All of our exchanges around the micro flat screen TV,” said Carell, laughing. “I think most of the memories have to do with things that we shared as a cast. When we were doing "Fun Run" and it was 105 degrees outside.” Sometimes you just need to carbo-load and apply tape for chafing.Krasinski shared his memories from filming the Christmas episode when Michael dressed up as Santa and let Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) sit on his lap. "I was never there,” said Krasinski, who was originally supposed to bookend the scene by delivering one of his trademark Jim faces but couldn’t control his laughter. “I was physically never there because, by the time they got to the swish pan to me, I was out. I was either on the floor or I had left the room.”“Part of what was so much fun about it was that everyone in the cast was rooting for everyone else,” said Carell. “People would step back when it was time for other people to shine and celebrate it. Like, when you came in as Dwight that day, it was crazy watching Jim do Dwight and you’re a very good impressionist in general. I don’t think that’s something people know.”As for the scene that left the co-stars in legit tears, Krasinski and Carell agreed that filming Michael and Jim’s final conversation was one of the most emotionally taxing processes, requiring almost 20 takes before the men actually delivered dialogue and didn’t immediately begin crying. “That was a hard one,” said Carell. That’s what she said.[video_embed id='1929869']BEFORE YOU GO: Rihanna blesses us with new song[/video_embed]
