“I should lose everything,” said popular shock-jock YouTuber Shane Dawson in a video he uploaded Friday to his channel. “I have put so much hate on the Internet.” That apology video, entitled ‘Taking Accountability,’ which at press time sits at over 10 million views, was posted by Dawson in response to viewers and fans taking issue with his past use of blackface in his videos.Mere hours after he admitted that he deserves the wrath of cancel culture,
an old clip resurfaced of Dawson making lewd and obscene gestures to a video of then-11-year-old Willow Smith. He also sexualizes the lyrics to Smith’s 2010 debut single, “Whip My Hair.” Unsurprisingly, Jada Pinkett Smith, along with son Jaden Smith, are absolutely livid.
“I am disgusted by you,” Jaden wrote, defending his younger sister. “You sexualizing an 11 year old girl who happens to be my sister!!! Is the furthest from funny and not okay in the slightest bit.”Jada Pinkett Smith also was not swayed by Dawson’s video of mea-culpa’s or promises of contrition.
“To Shane Dawson … I’m done with the excuses,” the actress and
Red Table Talk host posted to Twitter. So far, actor, rapper, and father Will Smith has not publicly commented on the issue about his daughter, nor has Willow Smith, who is now 19 years old.
Dawson, who has not yet addressed this new scandal, said in his apology video that, “I was at least 20 when I started YouTube, and I made the decision to play stereotypes of Black people, or Asian people, or Mexicans, or pretty much every race. I made that decision. I said, ‘Oh this is funny,’ and I put that on the internet. Now, years later, I look back at that and … when I say I hate that person, I mean it in the most intense way possible.”This comes on the heels of arguably YouTube’s most beloved creator Jenna Marbles announcing that
she is taking a step back from YouTube after realizing that past videos where she sports blackface and slut-shames women were hurtful and wrong.[video_embed id='1944680']Before you go: The first video ever uploaded to YouTube happened 15 years ago[/video_embed]
