Fans may be a bit obsessed about the giant rock Jennifer Lopez is sporting on her ring finger these days now that she and former MLB superstar Alex Rodriguez are engaged. But it was another ring altogether that people wanted to talk about recently: the one Lopez snagged from Ben Affleck in 2002. You know, back when Gigli was soon to be a box office bomb, and “Bennifer” was still a thing. In a recent at-home video hangout with Apple Music host Zane Lowe, Lopez opened up about that $2.5 million, 6.1-carat pink diamond engagement ring, the press it got, and its famous connection to Barbra Streisand. That latter point was particularly relevant considering Lopez’s killer candlelit rendition of Babs’ “People” (while wearing a Streisand shirt!) during the One World: Together At Home broadcast on April 18.[video_embed id='1936067']RELATED: JLO's wedding plans have been impacted by COVID-19[/video_embed]“I met [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and she’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know,” Lopez said. “He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and was whatever. I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong. So she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it. I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me—and I thought it was so strange—about being famous, and how I handle it.” That’s right, Barbra Streisand wanted to know how Jennifer Lopez handled her fame.[caption id="attachment_4908817" align="alignleft" width="900"] Getty Images[/caption]There are a lot of other things to unpack in that answer too. Firstly, Lopez called the ring “whatever.” Then she went on to say she loved getting it. And then there’s the fact that Babs knew about the engagement in the first place. Who knew that such a loaded answer would come from Lowe simply asking Lopez and his two other guests, Dua Lipa and Charli XCX, how they were handling the quarantine life?Lopez, who is currently quarantining with her new blended family, revealed that she’s been introducing the kids to a lot of musicals lately, including the 1968 flick Funny Girl, which really put Streisand on the map as a modern-day legend. That wasn’t the only thing Lopez admitted to on the chat though: she also proved to be extremely relatable when she spoke about eating at McDonald’s recently.“I haven’t had it in years and my son wanted to get some,” she said. “I wanted the sundae, the apple pie, I don’t know when we’re going to go out again.” In the meantime, Lopez has her own upcoming wedding to plan. The singer revealed to Ellen DeGeneres recently that she and Rodriguez have had to put things on hold because of the current coronavirus pandemic. “It did affect it a little bit but we will see what happens now. I really don’t know what’s going to happen now as far as dates,” she said in early April. “We’re in a holding pattern like the rest of the world. Again, we’re just going to wait and see how this whole thing is gonna pan out.”As for Affleck, he’s currently hunkering down with his new girlfriend, Ana De Armas. Before that he had a lengthy relationship with the other Jen, Jennifer Garner. As for his relationship with Lopez? They called things off in early 2004, just days before the wedding. “We didn’t try to have a public relationship,” she told People years later. “We just happened to be together at the birth of the tabloids, and it was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was just a lot of pressure. I think different time, different thing, who knows what could’ve happened? But there was a genuine love there.”And $2.5 million ring or not, everyone knows that Lopez’s love don’t cost a thing.[video_embed id='1943353']BEFORE YOU GO: This teacher's COVID-19 song made our hosts cry of laughter[/video_embed]
