Is Emma Watson bringing back this early 2000s fashion trend?

And more importantly, are we emotionally ready to wear flared pants under dresses again?

It’s been more than a minute since Emma Watson has served fans with a must-see fashion moment. The A-lister was last seen on the red carpet back in 2019 when she was promoting Little Women and since then has been mostly out of the public eye as a result of COVID-19 continuing to, in a nutshell, make everything the worst.

Thankfully, Watson returned to her rightful place on the red carpet this weekend and already has the fashion world in a frenzy. The calendar may say 2021, but Watson is bringing some Y2K realness with her latest look.

On Sunday, Watson attended the first-ever Earthshot Prize ceremony, which included other celebs like Kate Middleton and Prince William. Taking place in London, the ceremony focused on environmental activism and climate change and Watson did her part by wearing a look that was created from 10 upcycled wedding dresses from Oxfam. Huh. Here we were thinking that getting married meant automatically losing half your closet space to a giant gown you can never wear again.

Watson paired her flowing, tulle and lace-heavy frock with black flared pants and heavy black boots, giving the overall look of a bride who is ready to say, "I do" and ride off on a motorcycle post-ceremony. Obviously, the motorcycle would be hybrid.

After years away from the spotlight, fans are ecstatic to see Watson back on the red carpet and in our fashion dreams where she belongs.

Watson was a presenter during Sunday’s award ceremony and talked about the effects of climate change on the earth’s rising global temperature.

Following the ceremony, she took a few moments to chat with fellow presenters, including Ed Sheeran and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Of course, like Watson’s actual outfit itself, the idea of pairing a dress and pants is not new. This look had a big moment in the early aughts, with several members of young Hollywood opting for prom on top, mall food court on the bottom. Jeans were the pants of choice for the trend, with Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff and Ashley Tisdale all embracing a look that came with the convenience of pockets and time-saving angle of not having to shave one’s legs. The early 2000s were truly a simpler time.

This isn’t the first time Watson has paired a dress with pants, but it is the first time she’s opted for a flare leg. Like our beloved Motorola Razr, Watson’s throwback fashion update is indestructible.
